A very early Model 645 .45 Auto

Model 645 Getting Scarce

when they first came out it was like the "second coming" and all the company & gun mags. could talk about. Fast, reliable, fed empty cases, etc. Suddenly they're like the proverbial hen's teeth to find. Always wondered what happened and what's it going to take to find another clean one? Any thoughts?:)

Back then, Smith & Wesson had a "Stocking Dealer" program where a "stocking dealer" was supposed to be able to get new models as soon as they were released. My Model 645 TAM00XX was shipped April 4, 1986 and in my hands on April 9, 1986. The seemingly earlier serial numbers mentioned above suggest that maybe the program did not actually get the first guns in the hands of "stocking dealers."
