A very sad day for chocoholics!

Stop it. Chocolate has an "FDA Allowable" amount of rodent droppings in it too. I'm still eating it. What's in chocolate ain't gonna kill you one minute before your expiration date, unless you eat enough that they need a crane to remove your body from the house, after cutting a hole in the wall, because you can't fit through any door.

Doesn't anyone remember a political campaign struggle a decade or so ago?
One side said it was "life-and-death essential" to reduce arsenic in drinking water from 50 parts per billion (current allowable) to 10. The other side said "OK, but to do this nationwide will cost about $50 TRILLION. Naturally the proponents made "big music" with the "Heartless *******" who want 5X the amount of arsenic in the water they wanted. Noise, it's all noise. Go eat that Hershey bar right now. Joe

Keep on using the Hershey's...just don't eat any...Keep quiet..what they don't know won't hurt them. Does MC have lead etc in it too?

At my age, these warnings are just an annoyance. Having lived through countless told and untold health warnings, I question the numbers. First, Cadmium safe numbers are close to zero. 4.1 micrograms might sound like a large number until you know what that equates to. Let's see - 4 micrograms is equivalent to .0000004 grams. How does someone measure that??

Very carefully. :D I speak as someone who did very high precision radio frequency metrology for the first ten years of my working life.

This does have the makings of a crisis. I suggest that you contact The Wilbur Chocolate Company in Lititz, PA and discuss your concerns with them either by email or a phone call.

They have better chocolate than Hershey, and are an older company. I believe the factory store has a mailing service. Get a couple packs of Wilbur semi sweet buds. Much like a Hershey kiss only smaller.

They are right in the center of town on Rt 501

The article on lead and cadmium is from a December 2022 Consumer reports, and it uses California's maximum allowable dose levels. Is there any reason to believe California's numbers are based on any kind of actual science as opposed to someone plucking numbers out of thin air? I have no confidence in anything California does being reasonable and rational. I think if the lead and cadmium levels in chocolate were actually problematic we would have heard about it from sources other than California.

Remember when Saccharin was dropped from all sweeteners because it caused cancer in mice and rats. Now that has disappeared. My Great Grandmother and Grand Mother used Saccharin and they lived well into their 90's. Don't dare eat a charcoal hamburger or steak

Is smoking meat with charcoal bad for you?

Yes, BBQ smoke can be unhealthy due to the presence of various harmful compounds produced during the burning of wood or charcoal. Here are some key points to consider: Carcinogens: BBQ smoke contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic amines (HCAs), both of which have been linked to cancer.Feb 23, 2019

California would never overreact to something and pass a law before they have all the evidence. They would never pass a law that was based on shoddy research or no research.

And the place never catches fire.

Is this a recent development? i.e. less product with increased price while keeping the same volume?
Or have we been enjoying heavy metal all along?
Once again conspiracy theory is overwhelmed by logic.
I was hoping to find the smoking gun equivalent of the butcher's thumb on the scale

I live outside a mining town just east of Butte MT. I probably have consumed enough heavy metals to add a lb to my weight. A little chocolate won't hurt me.

I recall when BACON…

…was gonna unalive everyone who consumed it.
 This was in the mid-70’s, IIRC.

I really like bacon. And here I remain…alive and well!

Enjoy life, it’s to be LIVED…not endured.

Be safe.

The high lead content in chocolate is attributed to the use of leaded gasoline in Nigeria, where most chocolate originates. Apparently the Nigerians still use leaded gasoline. I am not making this up.

I'm not giving up my nightly square of Lindt 85% cocao, nor the salt and pepper I season my food.

Many foods have some contaminates, but why starve to death to stay healthy?

Actually, Nigeria is fifth on the list. Cote d'Ivorie, Ghana, Ecuador, and Cameroon are all ahead of Nigeria. Nigeria is at about 6%. Cote d'Ivorie is at about 39%.

Way back, walked into a Brokerage office in the Vegas Mall.
The only guy there was a commodity trading dude.
He talked me into opening an account, and let’s buy!
He liked Cocoa Futures, mostly grown in the Armpit of West Africa.
I stacked a few contracts, but it made me more nervous than flying into a High Threat Area.
For some reason he thought that I had Extra insight into the Weather.
You want Bad weather, lower productivity so your contracts will go up.
I threw in the towel, sold out, closed my account. Made some Money.
