Found these on Tumblr, thought you might like them... As I understand it the last 3 are all the same aircraft.

I'll bet she was glad to be sitting in that titanium tub cockpit.
That's a lot of ground fire to be soaking up.

Warthogs are so nifty. It's a shame they are on the way out.

I'm awake....thanks Kanew!

Amazing aircraft, ain't it? I've seen pictures of them almost half blowed up, missing wing tips and rudders, and still brining the pilot home safe. Whats not to love about a flying tank? Sure do wish they'd demilitarize some of the retired ones and release them for private sale......I'm thinkin' I'd hafta get type rated! Thanks for the pictures!

They keeep trying to phase them out and every ti e they do, somebody comes up with a modification that makes them invaluable again. I'd hate to see them go away.

Every time i see one of these fly over our house (we live in the country
and get regular flyovers from a couple out training), i am
glad they are on our side. Slow, ugly, but darn they can bring
the heat when needed. Would not want to be targeted by that
30MM gun with depleted uranium rounds.
Make swiss cheese out of a tank.

Chuck

Heard they're on the chopping block as part of the round of defense cuts. The USAF has never liked the ground support role, so not sure if there's much support from the fighter pilot elite to save this plane. Too bad the Army can't take over that aircraft. We had fixed wing aircraft in the old Mohawk for the MI guys.

The A-10 was on the chopping block just before Operation Desert Storm. It performed so well then, they decided to keep it. Alas, what we have is what we have. They are not building any more.

I belonged to the 23rd Tac Fighter Wing while stationed at England AFB, LA. That was a great assignment. The planes are quite reliable (as jets go) and super quiet. This meant we always got a day off for meeting our sorties and could sleep easily while they flew night ops.

They much prefer to be bus drivers......turn them over to the Marines, THEN we'd see some results!!

Every pilot I've spoken with wouldn't trade their Hog for the newest F35....they are truly a pilots aircraft.

Yes, I agree that they would be a good fit with the Marines, but they can't be launched off a carrier.

You haven't spoken to enough pilots. I knew many that wished they were flying F-15s or F-16s. Then there's the F-22.

Even so, my favorite is the C-17.

There were A10's flying out of Barnes ANG base in Westfield MA for many years until they were replaced by the F15's that now patrol the east coast. The Warthogs were fun to watch, especially when we were hiking or fishing at the big reservoir a few miles north of here. They must have had a green light to let it all hang out over the sparsely-populated area, as they came through at treetop level, always two at a time.

Where I used to live in England they did a lot of low-level training with A-10s. Added an extra dimension of excitement when driving down narrow country lanes to be suddenly overflown by a pair of these guys at an alleged 250 feet. Yeah, right.;)

A10's say Don't tread on US. Or we will kill you, and every one with in 200 yards...When our adversaries don't like and are scared of them. That says enough......The people we find ourselves fighting now days don't follow the rules of war.....The A10 sort of says "you wanted it, now we will give it to you....If we have to be in some of those dung holes, lets get the job done and come home...

It's been said that USAF General Chuck Horner, the Air Commander during the 1st Persian Gulf War, threatened to disown his son when he told his father that he had chosen to fly the A-10, over any fighter plane in the USAF arsenal. If it's not a true story, it should be. The A-10 is my favorite plane, but then again, my 2nd favorite is the Douglas A-1 Skyraider.

Regards,

Dave

Let's see:
We got a subsonic aircraft that can soak up incredible amounts of damage from hostile fire.
The airframe is built around a gatling so big that it can powder almost any armored vehicle made.
Said gatling cannon has a rate-of-fire almost unbelievably rapid for its caliber/bore, making it almost able to carpet-bomb with its GAU.
Able to carry Bomb and/or rocket wing mounted payloads.
Able to be a fire-control foreward director.
Pilot shielding that is proven to protect.
Yeah lets get rid of that one!
