I'm thinking of picking up a used Model 10 from Bud's. Do you have any advice on inspecting it before accepting it? Would you have it re-blued or leave it alone?

I've Purchased two of the Australian return (VPA) model 10's from Buds.
Both were mechanically sound with surface wear. Stocks are likely to be throwaways.
As for inspection, I would inspect for the following:
Push-off (hammer drops from cocked position with thumb pressure)
Carry up (does the gun lock on each charge hole)
End shake (cylinder moves back and forth when cocked)
There's loits more, for sure, but these are some "basics".
As for refinishing, I'd say not. These are unique police guns with "history". Plus a good refinish will cost ~$200.
On mine, a bit of touchup with Wonder Blue was enough:

So, you like the Wonder Blue? I've seen the kits but don't know what to expect from any of them.

Wonder Blue works better than anything else I have tried for minor touchups. As heat is needed, it's not a true "cold blue".
There'a 4 different steps/chemicals used in the process.
Following directions exactly I have had great results.
That 10-11 was pretty scuffed up, LGS guys wondered why I'd want such a worn gun. Image above is after touchup.

A Model 10 that was given any reasonable care during it's life should be just fine.

I have seen dedicated range rentals that have had over 15,000 rounds through them. And still functioned perfectly.

Inspect throughly, and make your descision.

gr7070: do you know anyone who's bought from them? I never heard of them until just now.

How do you treat light surface rust? Steel wool? Should that be a dealbreaker?

Both of my VPAs came in plain brown S&W boxes marked for M&P 40s.
Guess they just opened the new ones and dropped the revolvers into the same boxes.
My 3" one dates to 1975 and looks to have been used as a boomerang a few times - saves on ammo that way!
Like to think that she was its original user:

You lucky guys. They didn't even leave them here in Oz for us :(

They traded the old revolvers in for the new MP that VICPOL got.

Most of them would be very worn from the holster and that but they did not see many rounds as police here in Oz doesn't practice at the range intensively.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about the used Model 10...thinking I might just get a new 637. I can get it for $325 minus the 30 dollar rebate from S&W.

Thoughts?

Get it!! I rather have the new 637 than a beat up 10 for that money. But if the 637 was not an option, I would definitely go for the 10. I'm still thinking about picking one up.

I recently purchased a 3" Model 10 from Buds and am very satisfied with the purchase. Gun is in great shape with some cosmetic wear but cleaned up nicely. A great shooter.................

Are you going to share how this is done??:)

Never mind...looks like the 637 comes in snubbie only. I'm looking for another 3"..

I picked up two of the used 4 inch Mod 10-10s from Bud's/Gun Warehouse Saturday. Both had substantial wear to the blue, especially both sides of the barrels, but no real dents or dings, both had Uncle Mike's black rubber grips. I checked them out carefully before I started the paperwork; the sales girl was professional and patient. The chambers and bore looked new. They were actually pretty clean over all. The lock up was cherry, zero end shake in the cylinder, cocked. At home I compared them closely to my old MOD 10-5; there are some minor differences, but oddly, the MOD 10-10 felt distinctly heavier than the Mod 10-5. The sensation was that they were somehow bigger. I looked and looked and couldn't see any difference in countour or profile. Go figure.

I picked up a round-butt Model 10-10 from Bud's a while back. It has holster wear, but it's a dream to shoot. Super accurate and fun. It's also my favorite gun to teach first-time shooters. Stoked with 148 grain wadcutters, it is just a really pleasant and soft-shooting gun.

I also bought a 3" square-butt from Bud's, and got a 10-5 with a lot of cosmetic wear and rust freckles. The really bad part was that the barrel was so crooked, the gun would practically shoot around corners. I figure it had been seriously dropped at some point in its existence. I traded it away at a loss.

Here's my 10-10 4" pictured with some rubber Uncle Mike's grips I took off of one of my other police trade-ins. This gun sometimes wears magnas and a T-grip.

If M637 appeals to you, why not? Brand new has to be worth something, assuming you find all the modern features acceptable.

Let's see; brand new, +P rated, lifetime warranty. Smart move i'd say.
Any Model 10 is "+P rated".
