A person selling this pistol states it has illuminated sights. Is it safe to say factory night sights ? Also, how can I tell (via photo) if it does or does not have a mag safety? Seller says it is all factory stock pistol and not sure about the MS ,nothing added by anyone. What about the SKU # on box? would that tell anything ? Thanks

yes i would say factory night sights, or aftermarket.

the easiest way to see if it has a magazine safety is the slide. it should say "this weapon is capable of being fired with the magazine removed" also you could send the seller a message and outright ask them.

The SKU usually wont tell much except a ship date. if it comes with all the original paperwork it should have a small envilope with it with the test fire shell inside. which will tell you the test fire and ship date which will let you know when it was made.

hope this helps

If the seller can pull the mag out and the gun still goes click, it has no mag safety. Also as youseemym&p says, the slide will have a big ugly warning etched into the slide if it has no mag safety. I bought my 40 with the mag safety then removed it just so I won't have the ugly writing on it.

Illuminated sights could mean almost anything. Typical is radioactive sights like night sights, but some call fiber optic sights illuminated.

I have a 9C with the factory luminous sights and they are not true night sights. In sunlight they're really bright and will stay bright for a little while. Indoors, in the dark, they are nothing more than standard sights if they haven't been exposed to light beforehand.

Those would be fiber optic.

Night sights create their own light from radiation. ;)

There are also some sights that are called luminous, and glow for a short time after exposure to light. I've never understood this concept...if I am awakened in the middle of the night, I don't want to have to "charge" my night sights before I can use them. If I want night sights on a pistol, I'll have the tritium or other true night sights (glow in the dark without charging) installed...otherwise, they might as well just be white dots IMO.

They aren't fiber optic. They are white dot sights with a luminous paint.

These are fiber optics on my full size M&P9.

Never heard of those from the factory. Both my M&P's have factory Trijicons.

The SKU is 15118. It was a limited run of pistols with a thumb safety but without the key lock or the magazine safety. Google the SKU and this is one of the things that you'll find:
