Manufacture date would be approximately 1990. The 66-3, according to the Standard Catalog of S&W, was produced from 1986 through 1994. The three letter serial prefix, for all models, began in 1982.

It was made in Springfield, MA, U.S.A. and should say so on the right hand side, on lower portion of the frame in front on the trigger guard and below the cylinder.

If it has all of that information, chances are it is 100% original. If you have a friend who may be a S&W collector, take them with you to inspect the Mod. 66.

Good luck, they are super revolvers and the 2.5" barrel is a favorite on the forum!

@JAREDSHS, thank you so much... I am very excited about my SW. :))

66-4 snubby owner here. What a great gun and just stunningly beautiful along with it's workman like functionality. They don't make them like these anymore, hold onto em if you got em.

I bought a brand new one, and am waiting for a fixed rear sight for it. It is a nice carry gun, but I will most likely continue to carry my CS 45.

Welcome to the FORUM! If you buy it, you should enjoy shooting it! I have a -2. It was a bit steep in price, but could not pass it up. Bob

Thank you guys. @Kadonny, really looks great!

Gentleman,

One more question. In internet, i saw some guns those have serial number behind the cylinder. (Model number & serial number together) In fact, on my candidate gun, there is only one serial number which is at the bottom of the grip and no serial number behind the cylinde. Is it a problem? Please share your thoughts.

Thank you again...

Kurty -

Older guns (pre-model numbers?) had serial numbers on the cylinder, underneath the ejector star, grip frame and grips. Not sure when this practice changed. I have a 1968 Model 36 that has serial number on the grip frame and grips but not the cylinder.

I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable will chime in with additional details.

Kurty----Just Call S&W customer service and give them the Serial number you have and they will tell you over the phone what you need to know. Welcome aboard.
While you're asking them for the date, ask them for the SKU (product code) and that will tell you how it shipped (WO rear sight, TT/TH, etc.).

The vast majority of round butt Models 19 & 66 shipped with magna stocks that did not cover the serial number on the butt so they didn't bother stamping it in the yoke cut too.
You'll see it stamped there on square butt Combat Magnums because most of them shipped with targets that covered the butt.
Later round butts that shipped with Uncle Mike's rubber grips, etc. will have the serial number in the yoke cut (or somewhere else) so you don't have to remove the stocks to read it.

@snw19_357, great info! Thanks so much... Yes, previous stocks were as you told. (Can be seen on the pics.) I called S&W customer service. They told its a model 66, which is a consistent info. Also the production date was Nov-1990. They are unable to provide SKU# because of privacy reasons.

@old_bear, yes it is light & small. I can carry concealed even riding a horse. :)) -will share some pics when i do-

@Metal Man, you are right not al models have serial number on yoke cut.

@double-dipper, here are some appetiser photos which seller guy shared and i took when testing the gun. Will share much more once i buy it ;)
