I suppose everyone in here is acutely aware of the frequency in which we are loosing members. I have gone to bed a many a night in the last few years with tears in my eyes and a sick feeling in my stomach.

I don't want to forget about the friends I've made here. And with my old brain the way it is now a days I struggle with my memory. I wonder about the feasibility of a memorial forum. So when one of us passes their name and a few pertinent comments could be listed.

I would be nice to be able to look back and remember absent friends.

I know this forum goes back a long ways and I don't know how far back to go. I know this could be time consuming but I just wanted to put a bug in your ear. Anything you could work out I'm sure would be well received and appreciated by the members.

Thanks for all you do
Jack

I can create a list of Absent Comrades rather easily.
I don't think we will add a forum though.
The list could be easily accessed by placing it here-

Rules, Terms of Service, & Information, or as a sticky in The Lounge, but I hate to add another sticky because there are already so many. Members could inform me when a member passes by posting in The Office if it is placed in the forum linked above, or in the thread if it is in The Lounge.

Comments in that thread would make it rather cumbersome and useless as more and more comments were added, so I don't see that happening.

Input welcome.

Sorry if i might disagree. I have lost all of my old hunting partners over the years. Tried to hunt with younger fellows, now they are gone or crippled up to go. The time I spend here is valuable to me, It's my thinking back to the fun times sitting around a camp fire with friends & wattching a thuusnd things in the flames. Just an old 44 guys thoughts

Remembering our loses is a very important thing, and I like the idea of a list someplace on the forum. How we each remember them is a very personal thing. So I'm against commentary! If we can still access the search of the threads and postings; we could each look up their life in the forum. Often there is a final posting by a friend or loved one, that is the oblivious (at least to me) place to make comments, and we can still memorialize (post) at that place.

Speaking of MIAs, any news on Paradise Road? I enjoyed his posts.

Per other forum members on another thread, friend ParadiseRoad fell victim to the covid flame wars, and is in the penalty box for intemperate remarks. Hopefully he will rejoin us soon.

Re absent comrades, I like The Big Griller's idea in post #2 above. Those of us who care to look could find it easily enough. And I agree with Ivan in post #6 that that it is a personal thing, and those who wish to remind themselves of our absent comrades could readily look up posts. I don't like the idea of continuing commentary, never ending obits, either. Those friends who want to reminisce can do so via PM or email or phone.

But I have nothing against the idea of a memorial list. Just feel it should be low key

Maybe put in the Community Links pull down. That way people can look there. Or not.
Good idea!

Seems placing a new line in the Community section would be a good, logical place (if it can be done)
With a read only of course.

Holy cow!

I seriously had NO IDEA some of these folks passed on.

I'm glad they were members and shared so that we became a better board.

I'm sad because they can no longer contribute.

Thank you for making and posting the list.
