Accuracy difference with HBWC's vs BBWC's in model 52

I've found, Speer LHBWC's with 3.2gr of W231 to be a very accurate 38spl load. I'm just starting to experiment with Berry's plated DEWCs but to this point have not done as well as the Speer's.. You need to burn more powder with plated bullets...

I always used the Remington 148 gr. LHBWC. In the good old days we purchased them in wooden cases containing ca. 5000 bullets.
I tried using the plated 148 gr. HBWC but was not successful in terms of accuracy and they required a large increase in powder charge to obtain similar velocities - I gave up on using the plated bullets.

Pretty amazing to me is that I just purchased 700 rounds of the Remington loaded wadcutter ammo, and had just pulled a bullet to verify that it was the desired hollow base, when I pulled up this forum and this was the newest (top) post. :)

Yes, I think the hollow base is the more accurate bullet.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt the HBWC is the most accurate in a 52 . Solid base both FB & BB will not shoot as well . Of the 2 the FB will out shoot a BB . Plated are for plinking only & I wouldn't use them if you paid me . I'm a Bullseye shooter & I'm interested in what loads give me the smallest groups outdoors @ 50yds . With careful loading techniques one can handload ammo that'll shoot as well as factory match HBWC ammo . If you'll take time to search my past posts you'll see exactly what I'm talking about .

I don't shoot well enough......

I don't shoot well or serious enough where it makes much of a difference, but the HBWC in the right pressure range beats a BBWC in accuracy. You can drive the BBWCs faster but it doesn't increase accuracy. And BBWCs are a little cheaper!.:D

I'd like to devote a range trip to finding this out, but right now I'm going with the cheapest and most available that I can stock up on. Probably the double ended jobs.

HBWC vs BBWC

My vote goes to the HBWC in the 52....and prob in everything else also.....I competed for years with a 52 and the load mentioned in post #3 was my normal load and it produced the same result as depicted in the photo in post #3 . I also shot thousands of these loads in a custom bull bl mod 10 PPC revolver that simply punched out the X ring on bullseye targets. These loads were wonderfully accurate in whatever I shot them in....be it a tuned target gun....or a model 10 or 49 duty gun.
