Accuracy of a 686 2 1/2 barrel new gun

Ive got a new 686 with a 2 1/2 barrel. Ive not fired the gun as of yet, but i was wondering if anyone out theres has one of these ? and if so, givin the barrel length, at a resonable distance. What kind of accuracy can i expect, and how do you like this gun. Thanks in advance everyone.

Hi, i have owned one, few years ago (around 8)and i remember to have tried it at 50m (around 50 y) with a very good suprise and accuracy: with iron sights, a rest, all 6 shots within 9 inches.

I have one, used it last to qualify with, at the end of the day our instructor didnt eaven look at my target,,, 7yd 15yd and 25yd all 30 rd in the 10 and x ring exept 4 in the 9 ring of a B27 target.
Teknically the lenght of a barrel does not effect accuracy its only effect velocity.

Still the shorter sight radious makes it harder to get a accurate aim.

My 686 2 1/2" snub is capable of shooting better than I will ever be able to shoot it. From a bench rest, it is extremely accurate. As was mentioned above, the short sight radius makes it a gun you will need to practice with a lot to shoot it well.

all new handguns with a barrel shorter than 3" as follows:

7 yards, 1.7"
14 yards, 3.9"
21 yards, 6.3"

This certification is based on tests conducted by Smith & Wesson Corp.
using a fixed handgun, rest and firing ammunition manufactured by a
member of the Shooting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute
(SAAMI) as defined in ANSI/SAAMI Z299.3-1993.

This certification represents actual tests based on several handguns,
selected at random. Your particular handgun may have accuracy better
than the results stated in this certification.

Most are much more accurate than that. Try from rest with laser or a red dot sight and you'll see for yourself.

As Bob said the "book" is being modest for most examples I've seen, IMHO?
From my non-scientific caffeine and nicotine addled observations, cut the group sizes in half for each distance. Especially if she's shooting an ammo she really likes!

I do not have a 686. I did have a m19 2.5-inch in nickel. The gun easily put shots on a 12-inc steel plate at 100 yards on a regular basis. Misses were few and far between. This is offhand shooting, no rest. My 3-inch m66 is just as good and my 4-inch 610 is better. S&W wheelguns can shoot!

I have two 3" revos that will easily do sub 2" groups at 25 yds from a rest. I have owned a few that would not do that also. Notice the past tense. OH, and they are both DAO.
