"Ace" stocks

Howdy
Yes, ACE stocks were OEM for a while in the 90s, I believe Smith owned ACE grips. They’re all laminated and look like Altamonts. A lot of folks like em.

Here’s a 66 wearing ACE combats.

My late brother's 640-1 with Ace grips.

Positive: They look great.

Negative: Not great for recoil reduction.

When I carried this revolver I had boot grips on it.

When I retired it, I put the Ace grips back on it.

I picked up a 65-5 that had the smooth service grips on it a few weeks ago. They were marked on the back as being ACE and were OEM to the gun.

My research turned up pretty much the above, but with no thoughts of Altamont. Altamont has made OE grips for S&W for a long time though.

It is my understanding that S&W owned ACE grips. Not only would a lot of mid 90s guns come with them, but you would also get the paperwork in the box pushing them.

I liked the look of the ACE grips, but they are just not shootable without something like a grip adapter.

Those ACE smooth round butt magna grips came in a bunch of different colors besides the original rosewood ladysmith grips. I have a few of the green sets and one set that’s like a reddish burnt orange.

Thanks. These don’t seem to be laminates, though.

I agree... the surface grain pattern runs right through to the end grain on the tops, laminates would not have that and the layers would be clearly seen, as in the pic in post#8.

Those are an oddity, if all ACE grips were laminated. My vote is mis-marked regular round butt magna grips.

They’re off a 65-5 so the time period is right. I have no reason to think they weren’t original to the gun, but I don’t want to spend the big bucks for a letter, either. It’s going to wear these Compacs or something similar.

The stocks on my 625-2 are Ace round to square conversions. Their fit is amazing, and they're great for shooting. I would like to get some more of them, but they're difficult to find.
