Well, I took the plunge today and picked up an ACOG for my M&P15OR. I had been using a Millet DMS-1 on it and while it was OK, it wasn't what I wanted for finishing up the project.

This model is the TA11J-G. It is a 3.5x35 with a green reticle, powered by both tritium and fiber optics. (no, the little man target is not part of the reticle :D)

Mounted on my M&P15. I picked the ACOG up this afternoon on the way back from the range. (yeah, I know, should have gotten it on the way to the range but the store isn't open at 6:00 AM)

The quad rail is made by Troy. I installed MagPul ladders on it and like the size and feel.

AZ that is one slick looking set-up! The cost of that ACOG is probably close to what I paid for my S&W M4 from CDNN about a month ago! Just using iron sites for now but thinking about what to do next with it.

I've read many times that the cost of the optic should equal or exceed the cost of the firearm. This optic hit that mark and and then some.

I've got an out of town trip this weekend so can't even take it to the range until the following one. :( Oh well, it will just have to wait.

I was thinking Eotech XPS2-2 with a 3x magnifier. That way, I still have the red dot for close-in work, and can add the magnifier when I need to "reach out" to touch the target. Still, the ACOG is a sexy beast. :)

The Eotech XPS2 is a nice sight....no doubt about it. I put one on my FNH SLP earlier this year. Finished my shotgun course with 3 points off of a perfect score. The timed course of fire was from 3 to 50 yards, although we practiced out to 100 yards on steel. I wouldn't want to do past that with the Eotech/SLP combination but up to that distance, it worked well for me.

I've been running a Millet DMS-1 on my AR. Having spent some range time with close up targets (such as 7 yard hostage shots) with the scope dialed up to 4x, I realized I could live with the fixed power ACOG. All I have to do is prop my support eye open with a match stick. :D The weight difference was quite notable and I was happy to get the lighter weight ACOG on the carbine. I think my M&P 15-22 is going to inherit the DMS-1. The added weight will give it a little more heft and get it feeling more like its big brother. :D And I do like the reticle on the DMS-1.
