Actually carried a fanny pack in public...

Well a first for me yesterday, I actually wore a fanny pack out in public. Well for more at least than my daily dog walk through the neighborhood. I bought a medium and a large Tommy's Gunpacks a couple of months ago when they had their, "Free only pay $15.00 shipping sale." I've been using them on my daily dog walks. A handy way to carry a firearm, cellphone, extra mag and doodie bags.

There was a huge dog adoption event with several of the rescue organizations at a public park. We took both of our dogs and daughter out to it. I thought what the hell, why not carry the thing. Strangely enough no one pointed at me, backed away from me, called the police or probably even gave it a second thought. Still not my favorite form of carry, but I don't think it screams, "GUN!" as loudly as some think it might.

I've never thought they screamed gun like alot of people do. I had never even heard of that line of thought until I joined this forum. Wear it and enjoy.

I suppose that it depends on where you are. Some years ago, my son (a jail guard in the sheriff's department) introduced me to a couple of female colleagues of his who were wearing fanny packs. As I recall, I could even see the velcro fastening allowing the whole pack to be ripped away, exposing a serious ally, but he wasn't even aware of it. The surrounding populace surely saw nothing of consequence. We are all aware of fanny packs and "shoot-me" vests; most people aren't. It would appear that either most police aren't, either, or else they are more interested in indicators of criminal character than indicators of carrying a gun. IMO, there is some of each.

As long as you don't carry a pocket protector it doesn't wholly label you as a nerd...does kinda whisper it, though.

I wore one in Florida last Winter and no one noticed. I just skipped the bermuda shorts, knee length black socks and wingtips.

My wife and I both wear them when we go on summer vacation. Many other people are wearing them and it all blends in. I carry my 4053 and it fits fine. Fanny packs have their place.

I don't know about that. A few years ago I saw a protection detail working where everyone on the team was wearing polos, khakis, and fanny packs. Definitely not the types I'd call "unmanly"...at least not if I wanted to survive the encounter.

FYI, it was not the fanny packs that gave them away, but the way they carried themselves.

I carry mine about 90% of the time. I don't open carry often but I have been getting used to it.

Come to Hawaii, you'll see all kinds of fanny packs here worn in front, side, back, sideways or any other way you can carry them.

Some asian tourists have packs so Large that it looks like a small piece of luggage. Some actually carry a Pro sized Nikon or Canon camera in them.

As far a clothing........If it's on a tourist......anything goes.

You should see what some little old ladies are wearing......Dirty Harry could have his M-29 in it with room for All his 3 speedloaders.

The only gun packs that stand out are the ones carried by federal agents transporting prisoners interisland, kinda obvious at times when they are shown on the TV news.

I agree. Probably the only ones who would even think this would be some of us who carry. When you consider that we're in the minority, those numbers go even further down.

I say carry how you feel comfortable and support others rights to carry as they seem fit. I carry open 99% of the time and even I've never had someone scream, "GUN!" I've found that most people don't even notice unless you bring attention to it yourself.
