Tried to research on forum but could not find an answer to the following so wanted to ask for help. I have a M&P 15-22 with flash hider on end of barrel. If I remove the flash hider will I need any other adapter to screw on a Yankee Hill mite suppressor with 1/2"-28 threads? What barrel vise holder would you recommend to hold the barrel to unscrew the flash hider?

It will screw directly to the 1/2"x28 threads on the barrel, but you do know that it will cost you a $200 NFA tax and will take probably six months or more to get the approval to purchase and possess? This presumes you live in the US.

Thanks. I have already purchased the suppressor and paid the NFA tax. It has already taken 5 months and I hope to receive approval next month. Any advice on removing the barrel since I heard you can break the plastic housing when trying to remove the flash hider?

"Majorlk" is correct is in that your YHM Mite will screw on your threaded barrel, but has left out some very important information. The treads on your barrel are too long for that suppressor. Your rifle barrel threads are around .6" and your suppressor is set up for pistol threads which are .4". As is, the suppressor will screw on just fine, but the.2" difference puts the muzzle too far into the blast chamber and too close to the blast baffle.

Two things will happen in this instance (1) your suppressor will not function to its peak performance and (2) the muzzle blast will eat away at your blast baffle and cause your suppressor to wear out prematurely. Google search "suppressor or silencer spacer" and you will find several manufacturers out there - and they are not very expensive. These spacers not only provide proper distance for your blast baffle, but they also give a positive shoulder for your suppressor to butt up against when screwed on to your barrel...

These things I know, because I have been a "stamp collector" for a long time. I personally run a YHM Mite on a M&P 15-22 with great results. They work real well on longer barrels. If you run them on shorter barrels such as a pistol or a SBR they get hot and are a pain in the [creative spelling - phil] to break open some times...

The halo weighs about as much as the rifle and would be front heavy and look really out of place, just sayin.

That's what it would look like with a Halo on the end.

Yeah the Halo is about the weight of the gun, but the gun is light, and daddy put some goodies on her to make her a little bit more hefty so it all evens out :-)

I've been waiting 2 months now on the Tax stamp for my suppressors.
I called them up and the back log is officially at 6 months!!!!
OMG = Obozo Must Go

Just got one back last Friday. It was sent in on 6/21/11 and went pending on 8/19/11 and approval was 1/17/12. Hope this helps but plan on at least 5months from pending and don't be surprised if it takes six

If they could get the turnaround time down to a "reasonable" amount of time, I'm sure there would be a LOT more stamp collectors, let's face it, this is pure profit for them, you'd think they would want MORE money!

But yeah this is the Government! :D

Its designed for the ar platform I dont see how it would look out of place as for the weight it might tame the slight muzzle rise. and again you can use it on three different caliburs so if you spend the$ for the tax stamp a least you can use it on other toys.....Just sayin:D

Thanks for the pic back up Brett248vista nice halo btw.[/QUOTE]

It's not real.. That's for my airsoft M4 :) it is an exact, licensed, serialized unit CNC machined from solid aluminum.

Looks cool but doesn't get used on my 15-22 it's too heavy :)

Agree and fixed. :D

The wait time for the tax stamp is a bummer. However, unless you're planning on being dead in the next six months the time is going to pass anyway. Shooting suppressed increases the fun factor by at least 2x... really... it does.

G5-22

The Gemtech G5-22 has a similar AR size to it ... full length and SBR pics

Well said, I think the ATF has had atleast $400 of my money at any one time for the past 2 years ..lol

Agreed. To my way of thinking a suppressor is the most useful firearms accessory you can own; and it's one of those things you don't realize how nice they are until you get that first one.

FWIW I have been waiting on two stamps for myself since august and that is a transfer from myself to myself basically, because I am an SOT wanting to take a couple of toys out of my store inventory permanently.

It doesn't matter who you are; form 1and 4's are taking a long time right now. Average turnaround time is 5 to 6 months. This is always totally dependent on the work load of the NFA Branch of ATF. They have a very small staff and the demand is high for Title II stuff. And form 1, and 4's are just part of their workload. But I will say that of all the people at ATF that I have dealt with they are far more courteous and helpful than most of the others in the Bureau. I can call anytime and speak with the examiner that handles my transfers and real answers are always available. No mumbo jumbo BS like what some of the rest of them talks.
