Anyone have any info as to the date of introduction of the (4) position adjustable front sight used on a few S&W models? I know I have seen some 686's equipped with this particular sight plus I own the M29 Silhouette 10 5/8" bbl that was first reviewed in the April 1983 Edition of Shooting Times that wears this sight. I am trying to find any other articles or literature related to this. Please advise....thanks, Jerry (Gerrard)

Silhouettes

The 10 5/8" mod 29 Silhouette was introduced in late 1982-1983 which was the introduction of the adjustable front sight. The protypes were.
N906269 29-3 Silhouette prototype Shipped Sep-82
N907839 29-3 Silhouette prototype Shipped Sep-82
N908260 29-3 Silhouette prototype Shipped Sep-82
And N905892 was retained at the factory and later sold at Butterfields Auction 24 July 1996.
The factory also installed this sight on a mod 29-3 Classic Hunter(#101230) for Lew Horton, 6", non -fluted cyl, and full under lug barrel! Also a 586 8 3/8"(#103528), a 586 6"(#130537), a 686 6"(#104215), 8 3/8"(#104217), and last was a mod 57-1 10 5/8" barrel with only 4 guns made!
