I think I am wanting a 586 or 686 with an adjustable front sight for a shooter. For those that have one and shoot it what do you think about it compared to the standard front sight?

Not a 586 or 686, but I did have a Mod 29 with a 4 position front sight. It was good for what it was intended, Metallic Silhouette. If you are not playing a game that requires a multi position front sight you won't get much benefit from it. Much of the time mine was just set at my 25 yard position and I shot bowling pin match's with it.

I have a 686 and 629 with adjustable front sights. As above, if you're not shooting long range, different distances like Met Sil, won't be much use.

There is a sideways adjustable front sight for the Moving Target event in NRA Action Pistol (Bianchi Cup) that puts in the lead so you can aim at the center all the time, but it's not much use for anything else, either. Without it, you have to estimate 4 different leads each direction.

Assuming the front sight is of proper height to begin with and the barrel isn't clocked, adjustments are easily and efficiently done by the rear sight. The ONLY reason to have a front sight that is adjustable is if you are using ammo of uncommon and ultra light or heavy weights. So if you intend to shoot normal and common ammo available in said caliber, I see no reason to change the front sight. Unless of course you just want to own something different. BTW, you also take a chance in messing up the gun or at least the barrel if something goes wrong. To me - not really worth the risk.

Some people just like to "fiddle-futz" with their stuff for no real reason and I suppose if successful then you will of course have a conversation piece. Nothing wrong with that - "been there - done that" but you asked. LOL.
