Adventures while getting an Illinois Digital ID

They never asked for mine on the SP site. The fact that you have a certificate must mean your instructor verified the DD214.

I wasn't specifically asked for the DD214. I was just given the opportunity to upload documents. Since my certificate of training was only for the second 8 hours, I assumed that I should include the document that gives me credit for the first 8 hours. Tomorrow I get my electronic fingerprints done. I will then update my application and then will just await Jan 5th so that I can pay the fee and be done.

Thought I would get the process started today and then finish up Sunday, input the required info, uploaded certificate and picture and much to my surprise I was able to get through everything OK and easy. I was then ask for payment.. made payment with VISA and about 10 minutes later got a e-mail that payment was received and my application was under review. Sure never thought Illinois would do anything ahead of time, especially on the Conceal Carry.

My ex-wife is going through this process, and having done the class, she did the digital ID. She has had a really awful experience with it, as among other problems she could not get it to work with anything but the latest version of Exploder, and she had to go find a platform ...

One of the first warnings on Illinois Conceal Carry web page states Internet Explorer and Java will be needed, big red letters I do believe. Has a link to test your java and get the required version N/C if you need it. After following their directions I was done in about 10 minutes.

Which is shabby in several ways. The only good thing is that they tell you. Not being compatible with other major browsers in 2014 is darned near criminal.

OK....finally got through on the site, and paid my $150. Had a very irritating problem occur first though. When I clicked on the submit button, I was given this message "An Unhandled True Pass event occurred. AuthenticationUserError.html. Problem referred to our Technical Staff".

Same thing happened over twenty times. Finally, I went to the "forgot password" button which takes you through a few screens to recover your password. I re-entered everything the same...didn't change a thing. When I went applied again, everything came up and in 10 minutes I had finished.

Somehow, something went awry with the password, even though I did everything correctly a few weeks ago.

I had a few glitches getting started, and even some after having the application mostly completed. Even though I had my fingerprints done in late December, I had error messages saying they did not have them yet and to try again, for a few days. But on Jan 4 it went through OK, and much to my surprise it brought me to the payment page (I assumed you could not do this until the 5th) and I was able to pay and have this confirmed. Now I am just waiting for my license to show up in the mail.

Once I have my license I can then start to wrestle with the multiple restrictions that Illinois places on where it is legal to carry. I know that sports events are out, I wonder about something like the motorcycle show.

According to one newspaper article there were 4500 submissions on Sunday, 2000 of them from Cook county. My lovely wife and I got ours in by Sunday around noon. The Java download was a hassle and we took our pictures in advance so had to retake them to conform to the instructions. (Neutral face expression. Make sure you don't look happy living in Illinois I guess!) The electronic signature thing seemed pointless to me. Retired teachers living in Illinois with not even a traffic accident or ticket, no charges ever, we should sail right through any background checks.

Did mine on Wednesday, submitted everything except fingerprints. Now the waiting period is in progress.

Me too. It was much easier than I expected. My buddy found the site doesn't like Chrome but IE was a breeze. You're right ..... now the wait begins.
