Hello,

I'm pretty new to looking @ older S&Ws and need your advice.

I have decided upon getting a 4", blued Model 29-2. It would be a "shooter" but it would also not be knocked around too much (so gun could be a nice "looker" too)

Because I'm not a collector, I don't care about getting paper/case/cleaning tools. However, I've seen several 29's that do not have a case (or not the "correct" case) being sold for the same prices as those with a case/papers/etc (all around $950). This is confusing for me.

So, what is a fair price to be paid for a gun in 98%+ condition, both with and with out the extras?

Thanks much. :)

Welcome to the forum!

Right now, 4" guns are the hot ticket item so they bring a bit more than say a 6" or 8 3/8" gun does.
A nice clean 4" 29-2 should run you somewhere between $700-$800 by itself, and the correct case and tools will add another $100-$150. Prices have softened over the last several months, but there are guys who are still trying to capitalize on the rush that happened after the annointed one was elected. Either that, or they bought high back then hoping to make some quick coin by a turn around at a higher price than they paid, and are still trying to at least beak even.

I bought three 29-2 ,4" barrel guns last year, one with box & tools. I paid $750 each time. Leo

Yeah. I've been looking on gunbroker and I know the prices I'm seeing are probably higher than market. I could probably do better in one of the forums, but I seem to have perfect timing when it comes to missing out on good deals :(

Me too, so don't feel bad. You know, IMO life's too short to not get one just because you had to pay a little more than someone else, or what it should have sold for.

Besides, you're the only one who will really know what you paid for it, so if you find one you like, go for it and just enjoy it.;)

Sir.
I sold two 29-2 4 inch guns last year. Gun only, very good condition with very nice grips. $700 each. Sold to a long time friend.
