Same post in the revolver section. The combined knowledge of the Forum is impressive. What thoughts/inputs can you provide on the M&P compacts in 9mm? Function, quality, etc. They look like a good value.

I love my 3.6.

Had it about a year give or take. about 1500 rounds through it without a single malfunction.

I'm a big guy with big hands. The Shields are too small for me. This one is just right. Conceals easily, 15+1 flush, points naturally and it hits where I aim every time.

Everybody makes holsters for it.

500 bucks from Primary. What's not to like?

It's probably best to at least handle a weapon that you plan to carry before buying it if possible, but I think it would be a rare person that this one is the right size for who would be unhappy with it.

A Gen 1 Compact 9 was my first carry gun. It's like the Energizer Bunny.

I had a 2.0 compact but sold it because the SC is more versatile, quality is good and used mags are starting to show up again.

For me it came down to Glock or Smith and I chose M&P because I’m a lefty.

My EDC is a 2.0 9c (4") with a Holosun 407c-GR v2 optic. It replaced a 9mm Shield.

Yes it's a little bigger, but it's not like trying to conceal a Desert Eagle. I've been carrying it for a couple of years and shoot it every couple of weeks. I love this gun and STRONGLY recommend it.

Love it!

Had mine for a while now and really love it! For EDC it is replacing my Model 637 wheel gun as I practice regularly, and get more comfortable with both gun and OWB holster.

I also have a Browning Hi-Power, a Model 39-2, a Model 639 all in 9mm and these all steel guns are a treat to own and shoot, but on the heavy side for any kind of day long carry.

The compact eats any ammo I have, no problems so far in hundreds of rounds downrange.

The ONLY "issue" I had (past tense) was the slide release. That sucker was seriously tight when new! Felt like you needed two thumbs, a hammer, and a come-along to "push" that guy down.
I was used to the other semi's AND my WWII 1911's.

Anyway...several hundred rounds later...it is OK.

Keep at it...you'll like yours more and more as you shoot it.

That's just it. It's biggER, but not big.


I would never take anything away from the venerable Shields, but the Compact just works better for me. Hence different guns for different people

It's a business, just like all the others

I prefer S&W revolvers, just because they're what have been available to me.

They're not perfect but what is? I had to send my new 686-6 back to the factory, for repair. However, the other brands I've tried didn't seem to be of the same quality fit and finish.

Companies evolve for better or worse. Try before you buy is especially important with firearms.

I have been carrying my first gen compact since 2015 w/ a Crimson Trace laser grip. I have the original 12 rnd mags but usually carry w/ a +2 for 14. I carry a spare 17 mag w/ a sleeve. Still really happy w/ this gun.
