In looking at a model 15 that is stamped on the left side of the frame with the name of a Atomic Energy Commission storage facility. The odd thing is that it is parkerized but has no signs of being refinished. The hammer and trigger have case colors. Any Ideas?

I know of one Model 15 that has "USERDA/PANTEX" on the frame. We need more information in order to help you.

Sometimes its obvious a revolver has been refinished but a great refinisher will fool us.

But then it could be a special order for the AEC.

This Model 15 will not letter as having shipped with a parkerized type of finish.

Pantex refers to the Pantex Ordnance Plant near Amarillo, Texas. During WW2 it was operated by Certainteed Corp. as one of the government owned, contractor operated ordnance plants. As I recall it made aerial bombs and artillery shells. A number of S&W Victory Model revolvers were supplied to Certainteed for use by its security forces. Post-war Pantex served as a nuclear weapons assembly facility and does to this day.
