After 25 years …no Internal Lock!

FWIW, the N-frames look to me like they may have the same frame profile as the originals. That is one of the features of the 686+ MG that makes it look so attractive to me. From the photos, it seems to have the same aesthetics as the original, pre-lock revolvers.
That may not be true of the J, K, & L frames, but the no-lock N-frames look like they have returned to the original frame profiles.
JMO, but I could be mistaken...
YMMV.

N frames are large enough that they didn't require the change to accommodate the lock. J, K and L frame definitely different.

It's the gun version of listening to a cover band doing your favorite song. Just doesn't seem the same.

Yendor,

Like you, I bought a new model 4.25" blued Python as soon as they were released for sale. I sold every one of my locked S&W handguns. My Python is vastly superior to every S&W handgun I owned including the 586 that was probably manufactured in a Chinese village.

The best revolver ever made was the S&W Model 27-2. S&W rapidly descended downhill since it decided to deviate from perfection.

I was ecstatic about my Payhon. I bought an Anaconda. It is infinitely of better quality than the locked 629 I sold because the side hole used to make me sick.
