After 39-2, Which Auto Next?

I recently picked up a 39-2 that I really enjoy shooting. Trigger is fantastic. Down the road I would like to pick up another, perhaps a 439 or 639 in the second generation, or a 3904 or 3906.

Should I jump to the 3rd series next, or do folks that like the 39-2 prefer the 2nd generation?

Skip the Gen 2 guns and go right for any of these Gen 3 pistols: 3906/3913/5906/6906. S&W really got these pistols right.

Anything wrong with the blue 439 or 3904 guns? Or is the only difference between them and the 639/3906 blue vs stainless?

Nothing wrong with them at all - alloy frames, to my knowledge the 439 came in blue or nickel.

The 3904, of which I have one, came in blue alloy although I have seen some silver (stainless slide/gray alloy frame) ones for Gwinnett Co PD.
