I was just renewing my CHL through the Texas Department of Public Safety website and ran into a problem. It kept asking me what my exception to paying the full renewal fee was. Turns out that I am considered a senior citizen in the state of Texas at the age of 60, and only have to pay 1/2 price for renewal. Don't know whether to consider the glass half full or half empty.
 
How much was the renewal fee? I just renewed in MO a couple days ago............$50 for five years. :)
 
That ain't old.
I'm 48. Every year I grow my beard, just because the gray in it looks so cool.:cool: I posted pics of it a few months ago. I look about 65 with the beard. If restaurants want to assume I'm 65 God bless 'em, I'll take it. I don't lie, they made the assumption.:D
I'm gonna enjoy gettin' older, but I doubt I will.

Come on down. Texas can always use a few more good people and a little more water.

Of course, you can say the same thing for hell.
 
We can't, yet. Although my daughter is planning to move to Austin in a few short months. I'll at least get to drive the rental truck down with her and spend a few days there.

I don't want to drift (too far) off topic, but I hope and think that our future is in the south. Son and family in AL, daughter in TX which is where her boy friend lives. I see my grand kids being from the south. :D

I am so old that when I was born, the world was still black & white. Don't believe me....just look at some of my baby photos.:D

It is a wonder all of old timers don't have more problems with our feet from having to wear those bronze shoes. :eek:

That's funny, because I shaved my beard because of the grey. I looked too much like the Gorton's fisherman for my liking. Shame about my hair, or what's left of it.
 
Feel fortunate as I just renewed my Michigan carry permit and had to stand in line almost two hours and no senior discount $115 later.
I put brown hair on application but maybe should read gray too.
I can expect a two month delay and will be walking around feeling naked without my gun until it's renewed. Yes I messed around too long to submit too. At least we have open carry here and might try that too.
 
Consider yourself lucky to live in Texas, rather than Arkansas. We geta discount, but it's not enough to get excited about.
 
I shaved my mustache a few years ago because it made me look old.

It happened like this. My wife was worried about her hair turning gray. She asked me if she should have it colored. I said, if you want to, go ahead. I then kiddingly asked if I should shave my mustache. She answered "You could".

You married guys know what that means. I went up to the bathroom and shaved.

At the time, there were less than 10 people who had ever seen me without a mustache. They all noticed immediately, but the people who had never seen me without one, took much longer to see what I had done. I guess their minds eye just filled in the details.

In 1979, I sat next to Elmer Keith at a press breakfast sponsored by Winchester. Elmer was in his 70's and feeling a little low. I later learned that he was coming down with pneumonia, and he had to be hospitalized. I guess the Scotch that he poured in his tea wasn't a full cure for what he had.​



He said, "You know, (my name), it's Hell to get old."​



I'm over 60 now, and see his point at times. Mentally and emotionally, I'm much as I was in my 20's or 30's. Same interests, attitudes, likes and dislikes. But the body sometimes fails to keep up with the rest. Elmer was right.​



But if I see a senior discount, I take it. Even feel a certain satisfaction in having lived long enough to qualify. Why not? Many things and services are overpriced. If I have a constitutional RIGHT to go armed and the state forces me to pay for it, why not take the senior discount?! ​



In restaurants, the cute waitress knows that I'm too old to take my flirting seriously, so why not accept an offered discount? I don't look my age, but look old enough to be seen as middle aged or older. Some things are just obvious beyond a certain point. Getting the perks helps the medicine of aging go down more easily.​

For now at least, my health is good. I saw my doctor last week and his orders were "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it."

I know people my age and younger who have far more problems than do I.

Attitude seems to have a lot to do with it as well.
 
I'm 76, and don't look a day over 87.

Unfortunately I occasionally think I'm only 60. Then I can hurt myself.

But I still laugh a lot.
 
I tell younger people: "I'm really only 37..........I've just lived a hard life". :D (Will turn 72 the end of this month..........The Lord Willing)
