age of my 5906

hey guys. recently obtained my grandfathers 5906 and was wandering if any way to tell how old it is. only numbers on the gun is mod 5906 and tzu 2846. thanks for any help

Two ways that I learned of from this board. (1) Someone with a S&W catalog may come along and using the serial number give you a probable year of manufacture. (2) You can call S&W customer service and they can tell you from the serial number. That is what I did with my two Smith semi autos.

You have a fine model of a 3d generation semi-auto. If it is in good condition now and properly taken care of, you will be able to pass it on to your children or grandchildren. It is a great example of fine American craftsmanship.

Kave, It looks like 1993 in my book. I have one I picked up last month and it is a great shooter. Those guns our dad's and grand dad's leave us are sure special treasures.

CALL S&W GIVE THEM SERIAL NUMBER AND MODEL, THEY WILL TELL YOU. THEY HAVE A TOLL FREE NUMBER.
