Well I bought 1500 rounds of this stuff, and it seems awful waxy. I fired some old Remington ( 2.69 for 100, I guess it is old ) and no problems with that or some old Federal. However this Aguila gunks up my cylinder creating hard extraction.

Anybody else have this problem?

Just the other day, I got an email from an online ammo dealer, with an amazingly low price on Aquila .22 LR ammo. I don't know anything about the brand or their .22 LR, but the price was so low, I forwarded the email to a family member. I'm without a .22 LR at the moment. So, what is the 511 on Aquila .22 LR?

I shot a few different varieties of it a few years back, during the height of the pandemic shortages it seemed available. I don't recall it being particularly "waxy " but that could be differences in lot, etc.

So it wasn't particularly bad, but it also wasn't good enough (accuracy wise in bolt action rifles) that it became a brand of choice. In my K22 it was as accurate as anything else.

What's a 511?

I like Aguila .22LR and .22 Short. I have found it to be well made quality ammo that has more consistent velocity than US brands when chronographed. Never had a problem with heavy wax on the bullets. It has more priming compound than US brands so leaves more fouling in the bore but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I have found their std velocity LR ammo to be very accurate. I say if you find a good price on it stock up while you can.

35 years or so ago I was shooting in an indoor Bullseye League, with most of us shooting 22 LR. I remember one of the participants getting a batch of good target ammo that he felt had too much wax/lube on the bullets. He grumbled about having to wipe down the nose of each round prior to using them in a match. I doubt he bought any more.

It won't run in some semi-autos 100%, or even 90%. Never ran in my MKII or a friends MKIV.

It would be best to buy a small amount and see if it works in your firearm. You might find that you want to give it to some one that doesn't shoot it in a semi-auto. I doubt that you could sell it as the word is out on the street. It's mostly garbage ammo and inconsistent. It's made in Mexico amigo.

Aguila used to be a great bargain back in the day, and I've shot many thousands of rounds. I've seen a lot of complaints of the quality recently. CCI Standard Velocity was always my go-to ammo, but lately there have been complaints regarding duds, etc. I've also heard that the manufactures don't respond with offering to replace bad lots, as they did in the past. I used to buy both in 5,000 round cases many years ago.

I did exactly that yesterday.

Good for you. I tried Aguila off and on for years, but haven't bought any of it for at least five or six years. Their quality control is inconsistent. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. CCI SV only costs a little more and it's pretty consistent from batch to batch. I've been buying it by the case for a long time. It works well and is accurate in everything I have, handgun and rifle.

I'm sure someone will come along and say it's sorry ammo, but I've tried lots of cheap and moderately priced .22 ammo and it's the best I've found for a wide variety of guns.

I've never tried Aquila .22 but back in the '90s I bought a couple of cases of Aquila 9mm and .45 ACP. Both shot great and the .45 was near match accurate...much better than a plinking round.

To be fair to Aquila...more than ammo maker puts out some miserable rimfire ammo...Remington Thunderbolts for example. It might go bang but is very dirty and defective rounds are often abundant.

I use a lot of Aguila, generally Super Extra 40gr solids. Also some Federal bulk HV. All in my TX22's, my 617 and K-22. My 10-22's like the accuracy, as does the revolvers. My MkII doesn't like them, a tighter chamber I think. The TX22's are accurate with the Aguila, and don't seem to mind running dirty.
I keep a cleaning rod and some patches to run through the chambers on the revolvers about every 100 rounds, but that's been a habit since the days when Remington bulk was about all that was available.
I probably would shoot CCI instead, but when the Aguila and Federal are 40% cheaper... my wallet is happier.

Spend a little more and get good ammo, maybe CCI SV.

I'm not knocking CCI SV, I shot it literally for decades as the round of choice in our indoor Bullseye pistol league. I NEVER had a jam or misfire in my Ruger MkII.

Then the pandemic shortages hit.

I'm just saying, this last brick I opened (dated as purchased in 2021) was more like Remington Thunderduds in terms of reliability. I must have had 7-10 dud rounds in each box of 50. Since the pandemic I have become accustomed to 1 or 2 per brick, but this was nuts. It was so bad I relegated that brick to slowfire and practice only.

Fortunately this next brick I opened has only had 2 duds in about 200-250 rounds I have fired.

CCI SV is good, but it ain't what it used to be.

I like Aguila Super Extra, I've had good luck with it. I have a dedicated AR upper with CMMG conversion. It's the most accurate load for that set up.
