Ahrends Grips - Retro Combat or Tactical?

Ahrends Retro Combats conversion from round to square butt in Moradillo wood

Either the Tacticals or the Retros will work. I went with Retros, round to square in Moradillo. Really improved the looks and the feel. Always liked shooting 6" 617, but it's now divine with the Ahrends.

I've bought all mine from Terri Redmond, who sells on eBay as "gripseller". You're right about how it's good that she posts each individual pair - they can vary radically from set-to-set both in color and grain.

Yep, that's who the eBay seller was. They really have quite a nice selection.

I think you will like the tacticals. That piece of wood looks nice too. I have both the retro combat and tacticals and the combats feel thinner. I like both very much.

I'm pretty sure I'll like them too. Should have them tomorrow so I'll post a pic when installed.

I got mine from gripseller for the same reason, and because Ahrend's own site didn't take a credit card, which seems strange in this day and age.

These are round to square L-Frame Cordia fingergrooves. Very comfortable.

Beautiful. Haven't yet seen an Ahrends grip that I didn't like.

That's good to know. I would have thought just the opposite.

I use a front-to-back grip, so the recoil is straight up rather than to one side. If you squeeze sideways, the gun shakes more and it's harder to maintain sight alignment, especially once you get tired.

My take on the new Ahrends Tactical grips are as follows:

The Ahrends are definitely larger than the stock rubber grips. I tried to do some totally unscientific measurements and would say they're about 1/4 inch larger in total circumference. Still very comfortable though and a much better look to the gun. Others have posted that the Retro Combats are thinner than the Tacticals and the stock rubbers so the order of thinnest to thickest would be as follows:
1 - Retro Combats
2 - Stock
3 - Tacticals
Overall, I am very satisfied with the Ahrends grips and would definitely buy them again.

We'll, after a day at the range I've decided to return the Ahrends Tactical grips because, although comfortable to hold, they are just too big for my hands, and a bit of a stretch to pull the trigger comfortably, especially with the hard trigger pull of the 617. I contacted Terri at "gripseller" via email explaining the situation and had a refund in my paypal account five minutes later. I then ordered the Ahrends Retro Combats in Moradillo wood. That is just about the best customer service you could ever hope to receive. No questions asked, no hassles, just good business sense. They'll get my business again if ever the need arises.
I'll post a new pic when the new grips are received and installed.

Got my Retro Combat grips today and I'm a happy camper now. They definitely have a thinner profile than the Tactical grips (about 1/2 inch) and seem to be the same size as the stock grips. Much better for my smaller hands.

Here's the pic:

Terri's good people and the grips look great. I think I've got 5 sets of Retro Combats now, plus some other Ahrends grips. Enjoy them.
