AI is really getting dangerous & scary!

This post is a little ironic. I just was tasked by my employer to complete an online course titled "AI, Phishing, and Cybersecurity", which mainly discussed the major security flaws currently in AI. Also, the course basically told us to verify everything "important" through multiple sources. That reminds me of Reagan's motto, "Trust But Verify".

Call me a curmudgeon all day long if you like, but I really feel the AI technology is going to be a world-changing disaster. It has already gotten to the point that it drastically affects the daily decision-making processes of a lot of people, and will eventually - and I think sooner rather than later - be used to deceive and manipulate at a level, and for reasons, we can't begin to imagine.

I bet you are happier and have less worries - no doubt about that! There are a few days within a year where I have turned the news off to watch Jeopardy, but I just can't shut myself down and not be aware of what is happening day by day.
Once you realize that the talking heads on the news are lying to you anyway it gets much easier.

By now most everyone has probably noticed that an inquiry on about any topic on any search engine will produce an AI-generated response in first place. Some are obviously incorrect. I have seen somewhat the same thing happen on Facebook sites. This has begun fairly recently, around the first of this year.

Elon has just completed another one of these and there's at least five more in the planning stage. Then there's Stargate, Open AI's contender which is seeking to unseat Colossus as the king of AI data centers. Not to mention ChatGPT and others.

We're doomed…doomed I tell ya!

We are but Lilliputians in the future world of AI giants.

Here's an example of AI in its primitive state (posted two years ago)...
You Tube
"Oct 27, 1963 CBS News Special Report On Outbreak of German Civil War (TNO)"

Made to resemble a newscast of the time in an alternate future....now take that a few years up the road and you can see just how much of a potential threat the misuse of AI is. And man ALWAYS finds a way to misuse things.

I only post this as an example and a warning.

Be aware that the HAL 9000 did not malfunction.
And, for what it's worth, SkyNet did exactly as it was designed to do......
I reckon it is only a matter of time.
Remember what happened in 'Failsafe'?
And why didn't Gene Hackman drill* Denzel Washington in the first 20 minutes or so? Shoulda been a classic end-of the-world film.......

* As in 'perforate', or otherwise 'create bloody holes in', 'neutralize', 'dispatch', 'disassemble'......

It's barely imaginable the extent of changes we'll see within 20 years as a result of joint AI and automation. Among the greatest will be the elimination of huge numbers of jobs now done by humans. That will lead to enormous societal upheavals.

I was taught to recognize validity. The work had to be replicated by an independent source with the same conclusion and sample size. Think scientific research that is peer reviewed and duplicated elsewhere. This is believable. As Chief38 recommends, everything else is suspect.

Well we used to watch the 6 o'clock news and now they expect us to watch 24 hours of news every day. That should tell you something. Remember [the sky is falling].
And there is no more "news" today than there was in the 50's-30 minutes will cover it all. The rest is BS and opinion😏. Gott fill up those 23v1/2 with something
