I am looking to add a revolver to my collection. It meant to be a shooter/home defense weapon since I want something that would work with minimal maintenance. I think the M64-1 (assume it can handle +P rounds) would be sufficient as a HD weapon.

The price offered by AIM seems to be a bit high $499 but maybe it's "adjusted for inflation".

Finally, has anyone bought guns from Aimsurplus before? I bought Ammo and mags from them before but not firearms.

Just want to hear your thoughts. Do your best to steer me away from it because next step is to submit the budget request to my better half.

Thanks.

A revolver is always a great choice, as they are simple, accurate, and easy to load and unload, even for an inexperienced shooter.
A 64, is basically a model 10 made from stainless.
I bought one several years ago, when LEO trade in guns were abundant and cheap, and its a great shooter.
I have bought from Aim Surplus before, and found them to be easy to work with.
I think, perhaps they rate their guns a little more liberal side than some of the other places that I have done business with. Remember that is just my opinion. Overall, I think you will be happy with Aim, and the Mod 64.

They sold a bunch of 65s and 64s about 18 months ago. There was a thread on here about them. Some people suggested they were a little generous in their descriptions.

Biggest issue with these aim surplus 64’s is I can’t have one right now!!! Arrrgghh!

64-1 has pinned barrel. Good solid gun that can be polished up nice. There’s a 64 pre lock currently for sale on this forum.

Great job pointing that out, it's good to be aware of options. Doot's ad was placed in March.

"Excellent overall condition model 64-6. The last 64 before the lock. Includes an Uncle Mike's gun rug. $450 plus $35 shipping to FFL."

You'd lose the pinned barrel of the -1, but gain a round butt frame which some prefer. Plus you'll see the exact one you're buying and not getting "luck of the draw".

I don't know if the 64 is +P rated. Sorry that I don't have first hand experience with this model, Aimsurplus, or Forum member Doot.

Welcome to the Forum!

Amazing how much they have gone up since I bought my 64-3 from AIM back around the time Covid hit. It was $349 back then. I put a set of Herrett cocobolo grips I had in my spares box on it. I also say what you are seeing is a fair price in today's market.

I have bought multiple guns from them before. Buy with confidence.

I say go for it. The HB model 64’s/10’s are one of my favorite K frame’s and are crazy accurate. That price is a good deal imo. They are only going to increase in value. It being a -1 I would say it was produced sometime in the mid 70’s. Here is my model 64-1.

First Model 64

Bought my first handgun in 1994 or 95. $199 for a police trade in 4" 64.

Never really needed another revolver but it started the sickness, from which I have only recently recovered.

Today I've got it down to a Model 60 and a 4" Model 15. Holding firm there, barring fit of insanity.

Sadly, the days of buying a K-frame S&W 38 Special for $100-$200 or even $300 are now in the past and we will not see such low prices again. Today, a well used, finish challenged Model 10 is going to fetch in the area of $400. Stainless, like factory nickel, always brings a higher amount of money. I'd say a Model 64, especially those with pinned barrels, are going to very easily fetch $500 in today's market.

A used 64 will probably be priced $500 -$ 600 in my area. Two years ago I paid $650 for a nice post-WWII (late 1940s) M&P without the box or factory original grips. In southwest Idaho gun prices have gotten stupid. Which is why I've gone to buying my guns from a local Internet auction site. My winning bids are lower than retail prices in the area even after I pay the tax and buyer's premium surcharge. Plus it's based locally so I can preview the guns before bidding on them. Plus for me.

I have bought several from Aim with satisfaction, including a NOPD marked Glock 22 that has already doubled in price. I have a 64 pencil barrel that came from some PD, I don't remember which, and one of my favorite shooters and home defense revolvers, a 64-1 heavy barrel marked on the grip EBRPSO (East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office) that I got from Barney's Police Supply in Gulfport,Ms. They have since closed that store. I had called and asked about them and they were originally priced at $450.00. By the time I went down there a few days later they had reduced them to $350.00. I bought one and maybe should have bought more than one. I called the armorer with EBRPSO and he told me that these were originally for road carry and when the road guys were issued Glocks they were transferred to the prison/parish jail. When I was looking at these 64's I noticed some of them had round butts and 4" barrels. What happened was EBRPSO had taken a bunch of the round butt 64's the investigators were carrying and installed 4" heavy barrels for prison/jail use. Now they have a box full of 2" barrels they can't sell but may auction off at some time in the future. The armorer told me they "slicked" up the internals n all of the 64's. Mine is as smooth as butter and a wonderful double action shooter.
