Aircrewman...legit?

A gent on a local forum has a Aircrewman revolver for sale. It still has the aluminum cylinder and is only marked "US" on the backstrap. It is in the correct serial range and ser. # puts it at 1957. He says it is marked "Revolver, Lightweight M13" on the left topstrap but hasn't provided a picture yet. Unfortunately, it only has about 50% finish remaining and he is asking $1500, which seems rather high considering the wear. Is this gun even worth pursuing, and what are things to look for in verifying that it may be legit. Here is a pic to give a general view of condition.

Thanks, db-I overlooked that thread somehow. No need having 2 threads on the same gun ;-)
 
There should be a small p stamped down by the left front portion of the triggerguard. I think that is the military acceptance stamp.
