Working security at a Vacation Bible School this A.M.
A Church member reported that a young white female had left a Infant in a red van some distance from the front entrance and went inside to watch a children program.
Located the unlocked van and inside on the rear seat was a car seat with a sweat covered infant. The outside temperture was 95 degrees and inside the van must have been much higher. We opened the doors and windows and one of the team went to locate the Mother. The Mother arrived and could not understand what she did wrong.

Absolutely. When Mom was finally found and returned to her van, it should have had an ambulance and a police car next to it. If she couldn't figure out what she did wrong, she's definitely from the ankle-deep end of the gene pool.

My wife used to be a C.A.S.A agent here in OC and some of the horror stories she told me were beyond belief. The majority of her children were residents of Orangewood home and some were allowed parental visits and some were waiting for foster homes with no option for returning to the birth parents...ages; new born infants thru 18.

You undoubtedly saved that baby's life. and if what you said about the mother's nonchalant reaction is any indication, she'll almost assuredly do it again and not think anything of it. She sounds like a real clueless ditz!! I mean, if you don't report it, how do you think you'll feel if you read about the child's death in the local news in another week or two?

Many years ago. when I was working, a study was done to see how hot it would get inside of a closed vehicle parked in direct sunlight. I don't recall the rate of temp. rise but I do remember that after 3 hours, the temp. in a black vehicle was 165 deg. F!

Everyone in FL is required by law to report (Chapter 39 Section 201 - 2021 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate) however I didn't actually see a penalty for failure to report, although there could certainly be civil issues in the future.
