AL STOHLMAN HOLSTER

Hello Forum Friends
I recently found and bought an Al Stoholman carved holster for 3.5" N frame.
I knew Stohlman from his manuals but not as a gunleather's maker. The holster is quite acceptable, sound solid and seems durable. The floral carving does not excel, overall it is acceptable.
Your opinions are welcome.

Nice looking holster! I'm familiar with the name from his association with Tandy Leather. Don't know anymore than that about the man.

Is that a signed Stohlman made holster?

Any leathercrafter would be pretty happy to own that one, even without a gun to put in it. I wonder how hard it'd be to find that pattern in all his published works?

You can see ALS under the horse head, that is his monogram. On another holster i have seen the same trademark but inside an horseshoe

Can you make out what's written in pen under the logo? The light really obscures it.

Interesting how even Al Stohlman struggled with hand stitching those pesky welts!

I saw a Stohlman holster for sale recently. Maybe it was this one. I never seen a holster made by him before, but his Tandy's Leather book on how to make holsters was indispensable for me starting out making holsters when I was a teenager in the early 70s. I still have it.

The seller has sold also another Al Stohlman holster in black for Colt SAA listed after mine

With no offense to handejector, by way of educating the masses THIS is superb leather engraving (as it was called in the day). It is from the Sheridan school of engraving that appeared mid-20th century and is a Lawrence. The carving casts its own shadows!
