I was thinking about purchasing a Glock 22. From my limited research this pistol will take a high capacity (15 round) magazine. Can anyone tell me if there are any restrictions on high cap magazines in Alabama? I know in my home state of New York high cap magazines are legal as long as they were manufactured pre-1993. By the way, how would anyone know the difference? As you can tell, I don't own any autos, just revolvers.

Thanks,

Keith

Can't answer your question about Alabama law, although I'd be willing to bet they are now legal there. An on-line check or call to the Attorney General should answer it.
The mags manufactured after the ban in '93 were clearly marked "For Law Enforcement Use Only", or something to that effect, at least for Glocks. From what I have heard they are a collectors item now for non LE people, as they are perfectly legal to own in most states.
If your state has no restrictions on capacity, any mag, no matter the markings, should be legal to own now.

There is no restriction on any number of capacity magazine in the state of Alabama. If you can find a 100 rounder to stick in there, blast away. :)

"They" can tell because there have been different generations of Glock mags. Ones made today are different from earlier ones.

Oh, and seriously, it is Alabama, did you really think there'd be a law about magazine capacity? LOL.

No, I really didn't think so, but it's not one of the more gun friendly of the southern states; witness their hold out against Shall issue carry laws and their prohibition against SBS's and SBR's.

The SBS and SBR law was repealed July 1. I am one of the first legal private citizen SBR owners in the state.

Google for Summit Gunbrokers, they have some nice ex-cop .40 cal Glock 22s with two magazines on sale for $315.

I just have to... sorry....

The G22 "standard capacity" magazine holds 15 rounds. In CA, MD, NY, MA, etc. one must special order a "low capacity" magazine.

This thing with calling orignial equipment "standard capacity" mags "high capacity" just irks me. Sounds like Brady Bunch language adopted by anti-2A politicians.

Certain states outlaw original equipment "standard capacity" magazines and force law-abiding gun owners to special order "low capacity" magazines.

No sense pointing out to the anti-2A folks that the average number of shots fired in the illegal use of firearms is only 1.2 rounds and that restrictions on magazine capacity do nothing to reduce crime and violence. Just knee-jerk, anti-2A, feel warm and fuzzy misguided policy that only makes it difficult for manufactures to supply and law-abiding owners to purchase firearms by inserting "special order" requirements.

Ok... I feel better now... Terminology rant over....
