No way I want one of those things in my house. I have Siri turned OFF on my phone (I still assume "THEY" could still be listening at any moment of course).

This technology will be our downfall.

Speaking of downfall, I’ve fallen down twice this year and had Siri call 911 for me because I didn’t have a hand available and in reach to push my alarm button.

I prefer to worry about real-life dangers rather than hypotheticals.

She’s annoying sometimes but I rely on mine a lot to control things around the house.

Earlier this week a friend and I were discussing prostate cancer on our cellphones. No texting at all. The next day I opened facebook and there were 4 ads about prostate cancer. Someone or something is listening.
Probably any kind of "smart" device with a microphone is listening all the time, whether you want it to or not. That's why every now and then I say outloud something like "I love Google. All hail Google!" Just to keep on the good side of our present and future overlords.

No smart stuff in my house. No doorbell camera, no alexa, no smart thermostat on the AC. It's all old tech. Don't want Zucker or somebody spying on me.

I saw a most disturbing video a few days ago. A hacker had gotten into a families Ring doorbell system and was watching the family inside their home. Especially the very young daughter. Actually talking to the little girl late at night. Scared the girl very much as one would expect.
I was not interested in that stuff before a lot less now.
My alert package is an 80 pound chocolate lab. He does watch me close but does not say much about it.

I remember back in the late 1950's, early 1960's when computers were first coming out, there was a big discussion about the usefulness of computers. There were discussions about how many computers would be needed. The best estimate at the time was there wouldn't be more than several hundred computers needed for the whole of the USA! IBM was have very serious discussions about even moving from the typewriter/adding machine business into computers as they were unsure if there would be a sufficient demand for them.
