This little fella lives at the fire station. He's about 3/8" in diameter including legs. Don't spiders have 8 legs? What sort of insect is this?

Do the the pedipalps at the mouth count as legs??? If not it may be a sort of mantid.

It appears to be a double amputee Magnolia Green Jumping spider.
Front legs are missing.


Pretty neat site here (sorry my dad had an entomology degree so much of my youth was spent looking at his collections and books cause lets face it bugs are cool )

Jumping spiders actually make pretty cool pets. I kept several bold jumping spiders until the made hundreds more little bold jumping spiders and died.

That's not me, just a picture I found for size reference. They're pretty ferocious when it comes to hunting.

I hate spiders and snakes. We have big wood spiders outside. As long as they stay outside its ok with me they do kill insects.

Whatever it is. Keep it away from me. I'm Highly allergic and a simple zebra jumping spider can cause a limb to swell 3x its size. Something like a wolf spider, or god dread a brown recluse........can kill me inside an hour . I'm not afraid of spiders, however I prefer them at a far away distance haha

It is clearly a Fire Station Spider and you guys in your free time sit around pulling legs of arachnids.

It looks like an immature Green Lynx Spider. If he's in a fire station, he's off course. These are garden spiders and hunt insects on plants.

Looks like the front pair of true legs have been lost. There is a vacant space on the spider's body between the pedipalps and the foremost remaining pair of legs.

I have occasionally seen these here in Southern California, and even in my own yard. But I haven't seen one for several years.

Just a hunch, but I think maybe third would be the embarrassment of losing a football game to Alabama. Or LSU. Or Oklahoma State. Or...

Nope, he's sitting on top of a concrete wall out the back door of our downtown fire station. I took the picture with my iPhone. Here's another shot.
