I have been looking at graving an alien gear holster (3.0) for my m&p 9. If I were to get this holster I would be using the optional belt loops. How comfortable are these holsters? And how is the quality of them?

I have the 2.0 and love it. It's very comfortable and after 2yrs. it is not wearing out at all.I understand the 3.0 is even better, and I eventually will get one.I don't think you will go wrong.

I have the Cloak Tuck 3.0. I got it originally for an FN High Power. I later sold that and bought an FNS9. I got on the Alien Gear sight to order another holster, and realized that they offer free shell exchanges for life! Just send in your old holster shell and they will send you a replacement for whatever gun you need. Their holsters are well made, comfortable, and their CS is 2nd to none. I would reccommend them to anyone looking for an IWB holster.

I bought one of their "do all " deals of their 2.0 a while back. It included their IWB and OWB bases along with shells for my Walther pps, S&W 45C and S&W J frame. to be honest, I've only used the paddle holster configuration. I will say the guns seem to fit and retain well. (Well enough that I bought a shell for my 45 shield.). Construction is as decent as any kydex shell holster. A benefit is that it's cheap to change gun models as all you need is a new $14 shell to convert the base. Downside is that I think the OWB style is a bit ugly . It's also unlined.

Mine was ok. Comfortable and all that but the gun printed more with it then other holsters I use. My Galco King Tuck keeps the gun closer to the body.

Hubby and I use them for sub-compact, compact, and full frame carry, starting with the 2.0 at Christmas 2014, and the 3.0 when they arrived. We've also done warranty replacement because of a cross-threaded insert, and a Kydex shell swap when a pistol got traded, The interactions were fast and no questions asked.

They all have been effective with the Neoprene comfortable against the skin. The lining on the oldest Cloak Tuck has a small abrasion hole from holstering. They might replace it if I asked, though I haven't.

A good feature here in the hot and humid southeast is that it's impervious to moisture.

I'm going to offer a different opinion.

I'm not saying it's a bad product, but it didn't work for me when I bought one for my G19. I found the holster too wide for me as I'm not that big (32 inch waist). It didn't wrap comfortably around my hip so I sent it back.

Again, not a knock on the product. Just seems that dual clip IWB holsters may be too big for me. Not sure of your size, but it may be something for you to consider.

For Autos

I have a couple of them - one for an auto loader and one for a K-frame. The auto loader shell fits great. The one for the K-frame looks like it should fit, but it is like a child's model of a revolver holster. The OP should have good luck with his M&P.

Wish they had the shapeshifter for the .45 shield.

I like my Alien holsters. I have two for my Sig sub-compact IWB and OWB. I also have the OWB for my 1911s. I like the fit of them pretty well and the versatility.
Pretty good company to deal with, they want to get it right for you. Only issue I ever had was trying to get an OWB with a fitted shell for my S&W M-13, 3", RB, HB ...I don't think they had any idea what I was talking about. They suggested I use one from a different K-frame model as it should work....????? I thought that was rather stupid coming a company selling true fit molded shells.
Except for this forum, there are few folks who know revolvers nowadays unless they are over 65.

I have the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB holster and love it! I use it for my S9 with Crimson Trace LaserGuard LG-489. It is sooooo comfortable!

If fact, when I wanted to start occasionally carrying my full-sized Colt M1911 .45, I bought another AG Cloak Tuck 3.0. The M1911 being a heavy pistol, I wanted comfort and the AG holster does a great job of not only concealing, but distributing the weight--adding comfort.

I have one for the Shield and a Glock shell so I can use either. Seems like a great company. I met them at the NRA show and they were really popular.

I thought about getting just the shell for another one of my firearms, but I opted to buy another whole AG holster.

While interchangeable shells are a good idea, it's not practical (for me, at least). I live where it is warm year-round, so I'm not carrying a small gun in the summer and a large gun in the winter. Changing my EDC firearm holster shell only twice a year, wouldn't be so bad, but I may be switching guns every few days or so. I don't want to be unscrewing the mounts, removing the old shell, screwing on the new shell, and finally adjusting the screws for my desired retention. I have better things to do! LOL!

Also, keep in mind that if you buy an AG for a Shield and then want to buy a shell for a full-size gun, buying just the shell may not work well because the pad is larger for those guns.

Nonetheless, I really like AG!

I own 2 iwb, most comfortable holster for me. Also purchased one as a gift. I've upgraded the 2.0 to 3.0. Also traded a shell for another shell. Lifetime warranty.

I bought mine for the Ruger 9e and then a new shell for my M&P45. While they are nice, be sure to buy...wear pants 2 inches bigger (at least) or you'll be uncomfortable, a t-shirt and a casual dress shirt on top unbuttoned/untucked is best IMHO.
I have my M&P45 shell on now and the Ruger fits it and stays put also.
Cheers!

I can't offer an opinion about alien holsters but I highly recommend Bladetech products for both in and owb
