folks its been a while, good to be back with the forum.

Picked up a 39-2 ALL NICKEL. I have seen the nickel guns with blued slide stops, decocking levers, while the rest if the gun is nickel.
I have read some postings on this issue, seems to be some confusion. Some folks say all nickel 39-2 left with this blued part contrast. Some folks say that the blued parts on an oem 39-2 were sent out ( by the owner) to have the blued parts nickel plated.
The last option seems kind of out there about owners sending individual parts out for nickel plating.

Question: are these 39-2 nickel guns pretty much ALL NICKEL from Smith?

Also help me date it for ease it is an A140xxx gun. Manufacture date?

Can anyone send me S&W's phone number so I can request a ship date.

Many thanks, Good to be back.

Hammers and triggers are always case hardened. Sights and slide stops are blued. If your gun is all nickle, either the entire gun was re-done, or just the few parts.

I have the same situation. I wrote to S&W and Roy replied that the gun left the factory blue. So, mine was re-done.

Your gun is circa 1971.

Jerry, my Thread is posted above. Should answer your questions.
I have a lot 39s listed. PM me with the full Sn. and I will give you a close ship date. The factory has no info on 39s. Mike
I keep no records of the owners of any guns.

Looking at Mike's list, it appears a whole bunch of all Nickel guns and or parts were redone, including mine. Perhaps, they left the factory as all Nickel guns, as I cannot see that many owners have the controls nickeled.

Another scenario would be be that the blued parts were changed out with nickeled ones that were readily available from Numrich.

I've somewhat joined in all this but I'm not that interested anymore. I'm satisfied with the validity of my all nickeled, (including controls,) 39-2.

Again as per my phone conversation with Roy Jinks, (when you could just call him,) he stated that "no nickeled 39-2 left the factory with ALL nickel controls." Also, he said "ALL nickeled 39-2's hade a N stamped on the frame underneath the grips." Hmm well that's not exactly correct is it?

A person that was "there" on the line personally told me that when he was there, ALL nickel, (including controls,) DID leave the factory when he was on the line. Also a few nickeled, (including controls,) 39-2's with bobbed/spurless hammers were made. I have one so that's what got me into investigation mode. He told me Roy was with the revolver side of it and wouldn't have known what was going on in the semi-auto area.

I respect and appreciate Mr. Jinks and am thankful for what he has done and continues to do. I'm only passing on what I've found out.

Again just my 2 cents after doing research and follow ups.

Jim

I have one that is all nickel, including trigger, hammer, ejector and rear sight, slide release and decocker. Not knowing its history, I am assuming some of those small parts were added or nickeled after it left the factory. Not completely factory but it sure is pretty.

A nickle plated hammer, trigger, rear sight, or extractor are not factory plated parts and their presence should make one question the originality of the plating on the rest of the pistol.
