I liked Red. I believe it was in a late 40's movie with Red or perhaps Danny Kay that I saw Lucille Ball playing a bit part. It is neat to watch the old movies.

My wife is not into old movies. We don't watch much TV, just have Hulu. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in "It happened one night" came on, I twisted her arm and we watched it. She liked it.

I'll try to catch Red in this one. Thanks.

I loved Red's Movies and His Television Show.
I think it was in the Fuller Brush Man where He was trying to get a Ice Cream Bar to a Guy working on a Blast Furnace but every time He got close the Bar would melt,I dont know why but that sticks in My mind when ever I see a Picture of Red.
You can find a video of Him reciting the Pledge of allegiance on You tube,It has to be the best ever.

I will concede that Skelton was a comic genius. I have a true story about him that puts a different twist on his personal standards vs. what he represented to the public. In 1952 I was the youngest newspaper carrier that had ever worked for the Las Vegas Review Journal. About August of that year they had a special event for all newspaper boys and girls at the original Flamingo Hotel. We were gathered up in the main showroom and shown an abbreviated presentation of the evening floor show. It featured all the usual Las Vegas big show acts with the star being Red Skelton. In those days the early show had the "Show Girls" with bras on and in the late show they were topless. They were dressed with bras for the newspaper carrier show. After Red Skelton finished his very funny and entertaining act I needed to go to the restroom. I asked an Usher where the closest restroom was and he pointed to the side curtain and said go thru there. I did so and turned the wrong way in a corridor the entertainers used to get to the stage. I wound up behind the stage. In a dimly lit alcove Red Skelton had one of the show girls pushed up against the wall with both hands up under her show bra. It was obvious to me that she was not enjoying this action, but was standing there and enduring it. Red became aware of me and turned to me. He gave me a cussing out like I had never heard before, among other things telling me to get the 'F' out of here right now. I ran back the way I came and eventually found the Restroom. I then went outside to the bus I came in and sat there waiting for everyone else.

I have never watched any presentation by Red Skelton since. I will walk out of the room, turn off the TV and refuse to hear anything by him on radio. IMHO, he was a dirty old man with too much power over the little people that worked under him. ............

Just watched a movie on TCM with Red, Brian Donleavy and Arlene Dahl called "Southern Yankee". Pretty good flick. Especially if you like Red's antics. He plays a spy.

Red was a class act. When I was a kid we never missed one of his T.V. shows. HE always signed off with " Good Night And God Bless".

Ive seen the movie, liked it, its on DvD. I also like Red but, its been told by people he worked with-that he was a mean son of a gun to be around. However, I DONT know if that is true? and until proven so--ill still be a fan.

That's part of what I heard about the real Red, sad and glad that someone confirmed it.

Hearing that story about Red is surprising as he always came off as such a good upstanding wholesome guy type in his shows. Just goes to show we just don't know what goes on beyond the curtain. I don't think I ever got a bad mental thought from watching him.
Red's shows were on in prime time family viewing hours. I am sure his shows had a tremendous audience same as Lawrence Welk and Dean Martin shows had.

That's too bad. While you have to admit, the guy was a comedic genius and kept everything clean, it's just a shame he was that way behind the scenes. A friend of mine has several of his paintings. Comedy wasn't the only thing he was talented at. I'll never look at them the same now.

Went to grammar school with his grandson Robby, Red did a show in our local town and wanted a restaurant recommendation, I suggested my local favorite. He was so impressed with the meal, he presented them with one of his signed clown oil paintings. He was a good artist and gentleman.

My(late)mom grew up in Paso Robles, CA. During the war my granddad established the Lutheran Service Center in PR for troops from nearby Camp Roberts. Red Skelton was stationed there for his basic training and entertained there once before he was inducted-he visited the LSC in PR on occasion and was buddies w/a fellow soldier(a Lutheran, of course)my mom dated-old family lore.
Note:my mom eventually married another Camp Roberts soldier (a Lutheran, of course)and the rest is history!

We never missed the Red Skelton show when I was a kid. One of the few shows that whole family enjoyed together. Danny Kaye too. He would have my Mother in tears from laughing so hard.

It is amazing how good TV was when there was only a couple of channels; especially comedy, even without the "F" word. Remember Sid Caesar and Immajean Coca? How about the Phil Silvers show-those guys were incredible, and no one used The Lords Name in vain (?)
