Allman Brothers Live

I saw the Allman Bros at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, MI in Dec of 1972. Berry Oakley just died the previous month and was replaced by Lamar Williams. A young Chuck Leavell was on keys. This gig is in my top five of best concerts I've ever been to. They played forever. Dr. John opened.

Saw them at the huge 73 festival at Watkins Glen, NY and a couple times at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City.

Before they were The Allman Brothers, they called themselves The Allman Joys, and played at an underground bar here called (appropriately enough) The Cellar, with a buck-and-a-half cover charge.

These were the days of smoke-filled bars, concrete block interior walls that sweated as much as the bar patrons, twenty-five cent Pabst Blue Ribbon in cans, barely legal girls with beehive hairdos and push up bras, and bar parking lots full of fifties model cars.

It was wonderful.

Their concerts at the Warehouse in New Orleans were legendary. I remember one time they showed up at Audubon Park by the river and did an impromptu jam at the outdoor concert. Beaver Productions (the promoter if the Warehouse show scheduled that evening) was pissed!!! :D

Live at Filmore East was THE live album to have back in da day

Gawd...just watched that you tube-raw unvarnished rock and roll/blues played in a smoky venue as it was meant to be!!!

Saw an interview of Greg about two years ago. He looked like death warmed over. Liked their music.

We all get old. If we're lucky. Some folks do it quicker than others, and everyone does it different from everyone else.

Love the Allman Brothers Band, if I had to pick a single act, band or performer as favorite they would be at the top of my list. The Band, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin would be among the list too. Bob Seger and The Eagles also get honorable mention.

I bet those were killer shows. I loved the Grand Funk Live Album, actually wore it out and had to get another copy.

I saw the James Gang when they opened for "the real" Lynyrd Skynyrd Dec 26, 1976. I still have my ticket stub.

Wow! I saw the real Lynyrd Skynyrd Dec 23, 1976 with CDB! My cousin took me for Christmas, $6.50! right before I was heading overseas again!

They hooked me in Piedmont Park, fall of '69.
Again at Summer Jam '73 at Watkins Glen along with the Dead and The Band
Went to a LOT of shows , concerts and Festivals back in the day.
Knew I saved all those old albums for a reason.

Summer jam 73 I think was the largest concert ever. 600,000 . I was 16 at the time. Had to defy the old man but I wasn't going to miss that one . I missed Woodstock which was practically in my back yard in 69 cause I was only 12 and dad overruled.
