Dropped into my LGS having a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket. Not looking for anything in particular, just something interesting.
Well I found it. They had a beautiful, used 4” 29 Classic. Only thing was it had these ugly oversized rubber grips(X Frame?). The blueing was the current deep black that looked like black glass. Tight gap, locked tight, a slight turn line but all in all a really nice gun, along the lines I’ve been looking for. The thing that really caught my eye was the price. Originally $850, marked down to $650!! What!!! I was drooling, ready to lay out my money when the clerk told me the reason for the price reduction. Bubba done round butted it! They said they didn’t know about it when they bought it. Afterwards they wanted to see what they needed to replace those fugly Goodyears off, and found the carnage.
I’m glad they told me. I’d have been upset if I’d been the one to discover the damage at my bench.
I bought a used 2” 66–1 for a good price at a different shop and when I got it home, what I thought was encrusted dirt around the Pachmayr’s was pitting, and the grip frame has a scratch on the left side where some knucklhead removed the one piece Pachs without removing the screw.
I was able to sand out the pitting but haven’t tried to mess with the scratch.
Luckily with factory magnas it can’t be discerned, but I know it’s there.
