The late 60s sure were wonderful :) :)
Great music - No bras - Cheap gas - The summer of love
And then I joined the Army.... (RA, all the way)

Yeah, that's a list a grabbed off the 'net. I know In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was on the Top 40 somewhere between June '68 & January '69 when I joined the Navy. I used to set up the long version of Hey Jude, followed by MacArthur Park at 10 PM following the news break which gave me almost 15 minutes to grab a cup of coffee and smoke an Anthony y Cleopatra slim.

yr. i graduated from high school. remember all of those. we listened to KIOA,WLS,KOMA, and KAAY.remember those stations? although only in the evenings for the last three.

I was only 3 in '68, but I remember the station well. When I was in high school in the '80s I drove a car that only had an AM radio, and it was always on 1330. Haven't listened to it in awhile but I think they are an oldies station now.

I was in the Army, in SE Asia, particapating in a Live Fire FTX, with pop up-shoot back targets.

People talk about the difference between the Vietnam War and our current wars. There is no compairson.

WE HAD BETTER MUSIC

What an eclectic variety of styles --- silly teenybopper bubblegum to heavy metal, some fairly sophisticated instrumentals, a bit of C&W, R&B, soul, something for everyone --- this in the days before cheap FM licenses allowed Balkanizing the markets into smaller and smaller niches, until there were more and more stations offering less and less variety ... this was the golden era of pop music, and pop music radio...

I remember most of those. Had I known that I was going to liove this long, I might have have taken better care of myself.

1968 I finished the 7th grade in June and entered the 8th grade in September.
My favorite group was Steppenwolf. And the protest folk music was just to annoy my Mom & Dad.

I was 15 in '68. Of those songs, these on my MP3 player right now:

1.Hey Jude, Beatles
6.(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, Otis Redding
8.Mrs. Robinson, Simon & Garfunkel
12.Hello, I Love You Doors
20.Born To Be Wild, Steppenwolf
22.For Once In My Life, Stevie Wonder
25.Chain Of Fools, Aretha Franklin
31.Stoned Soul Picnic, 5th Dimension
32.Magic Carpet Ride, Steppenwolf
37.Jumpin' Jack Flash, Rolling Stones
46.Lady Madonna, Beatles
47.Hush, Deep Purple
48.Sunshine Of Your Love, Cream

I remember those songs and year well. I got my first car, a 1965 Falcon, with AM radio and first real date that year. That was a step up from the tinny transister radio before it and I thought those songs sounded great on it.
That car got replaced with a 1969 Chevelle also with an AM radio but put in a rear speaker to really enjoy those tunes. Later put an eight track in the glovebox and had those songs in stereo and hog heaven.

We were lucky in those days as we had AM stations in Detroit and Flint, Michigan we could tune into for the latest new songs. I still mainly listen to that era of music.
