I have a 7-rd, stainless 686 (round butt) with the standard black rubber grip on it. I'd like to put some new grip panels on it, and particularly like Altamont's faux ivory Classic grips.

Has anyone here had experience with these grips?

I had some wood combat grips on my Ruger SP101 but it was a lot of handle for concealment, without any real benefits that I could discern. So I decided to go with the smaller, classic grips on the 686.

Not the Ivory grips, but here's my 625-9 "Mountain Gun," which has the round grip, and with the conversion Rosewood grips.

I did have a little movement in the grips panels on the frame and had to apply some shimming. Not a big deal and now the grips are solid. I recommend Altamont grips. Never had, or in hand seen any of their Ivory grips.

Thanks for looking at my Altamont grips.

God bless,

I have the exact ones you are looking at on my 986. Mine are the finger grip square / round conversion. They also have the scrimshaw on them in the US ARMY Emblem. I really like them. They are durable and dress up that 986 10 times what the rubber could ever do.

I like the "Altai" RB-SB conversion grips by Altamont on my 696's.
Best fit to my hands of any commercial grip I have found especially for the L frames.
They are shaped a little like the Miculek grips and point naturally.
I tried the "ivory" ones and they are very slippery and heavy.
Also did not like the combat shape the ones I have came in.
I have found all the Altamonts to be well made and fitted.
One was a little proud off the grip frame and they reworked it to my satisfaction ... free.
Very good customer service.

Another Altamont fan here. I have super rosewood round/square conversion on my 460V, and also have super walnut square on both of my 19-3's. They look very nice and fit my hand well. Can't speak on the ivory grips...

I did buy these for my blue Python one year ago(Colt's original don't fit my hand at all). The white grips make the blue of the gun stand out.It is an attention getter at the range.Of course, not being real ivory,I don't expect them to turn to that yellow patina over the years but that's ok with me.As far as the quality and fit on the gun, they're tight and nicely finished.Yes,I'd recommend them.
