I believe the part is called the trigger stud. It has been sheared from the frame of my M38 serial number 3590XX. When it first happened, both a former Smith&Wesson police armorer I know and my gunsmith said it could not be repaired in the same fashion as a steel frame gun (welding?) and suggested I contact Smith&Wesson to see if they could repair/replace it.

I considered it a lost cause, assuming that it could not be repaired and Smith&Wesson would likely not replace the frame of a 50 year old aluminum frame gun (much less replace a 50 year old gun).

Does anyone have experience repairing these sorts of intergral studs on aluminum frame guns?

I plan to call the Smith&Wesson Repair Department but thought I would check here first.

Thanks,

The stud was not integral on the many revolver we repaired in our shop.
We had jigs for the "J" and "K" frame guns to locate the hole for new studs for the hammer, trigger, bolt and rebound.
Our shop is long closed and the jigs gone.
Doubt that the factory will do the job on a gun that old.
Suggest you try Cylinder & Slide.
