I always tumble my brass in a ground walnut hull medium, to which I add a small amount of automotive polish. Works well, but is messy. Has anyone tried aluminum oxide polish (powder) to their tumbling media?

I just use an off the shelf brass polish made by a reloading accessories company. No need to play mad scientist when there are dozens of products already made for this purpose.

Aluminum Oxide is what the 'grit' is on the most commonly sold polishing paper and grinding belts used for metal polishing.

Grit sizes run from <course #40 to into #1500 and above right off the shelf.

It's the common grit used in valve grinding/laping compound for years.
It does have a tendency to imbed itself in softer metal like brass, copper, aluminum. For that it is taken advantage of in lapping out dimensions.

I'd personally stay away from it to avoid it getting imbedded into brass cases. That then scratching the reloading dies when sizing.
