As I look for guns to buy either at the store or on the net I keep finding myself drawn to on S&W and tha is the K-Frame any caliber any barrel length. I have other guns N, J, L and autos and other Makes too Colt ETC.

But I always end up looking at the K, usually 14's 15's and 10s I really like the 19 and 66. I don't have a model 12 maybe I will get one of those soon

If a K frame was a woman she'd be the blond cheerleader that could cook like your mom, loves to fish and hunt and ... and... well.. would love you a long time.

K frames are the rock.

Yep, I must agree. I like N frames, but I do love K frames. I guess my favorite is the 19, and GF...that one is stunning!

Great Analogy Gail!

I have to admit I'm more an N frame guy because of my plain jane Highway Patrolman fascination, but when I look at my plain jane K38..........Oh heck!

The "K" is very special to me also, you have more to pick from than the "L" or "N" produce. You have the old 22lr, 32-20, 32 Long, 32 MAG, 38S&W, 38 special, 357 Mag..

I do the same. I have a bunch and when I find another I always ask my self "Do I need yet another K Frame?!?". If it is a good deal I don't pass it up. I think to myself it is good to have some trading stock around. Then I go to shot them and well they stay! I have had some many Model 10's I have lost track.

I was offered a great deal on a Highway Patrolman, but I had to pass. It just felt like I was cheating on my K's.

Maybe proper appreciation of K frames is a sign of incipient wisdom.

Obviously something I lacked in 1972 when I sold off a new Model 19. (Proved it in a lot of other ways as well, being a slow learner.)

I'm a K-frame fan too. Here's my 19-4 and 17-3. I still have the boxes and original stocks.

I do think that the K-frame fits and balances best for most people. The N's are really a little too large for many hands, and are more of a burden to carry.

The J-frames have their very important niche, but for an all-round gun, I doubt that much could beat a Model 66 with four-inch barrel. If one needs to shoot a lot of .357 rounds, the M-686 or the Ruger GP-100 are better bets.

There is something about those K frames, they just seem to fit me. I like J L and N frames but the balance of the K is just right.

ok, I have to ask...what is the difference in the frames? I have a J frame which fits me well, if not a bit on the small side, but for my somewhat big palms and short sausage fingers, does well. I'm looking for a 357, something I can shoot +p through on a regular basis. Could someone maybe give me models as well for me to search for ? thanks

My 10-5, 14-2 are two of my best shooting guns. My favorite and carry piece is my 66-1. I am still looking for the right 12, 15 and 19. :)

ok, I have to ask...what is the difference in the frames?

The size, J frame is the small, K frame medium, L frame medium large, N frame largest. The N frame is generally considered to be the best finished of all.

I carried one of two M-66's to work every day for 27 years, and I still believe they are the ideal carry weapon. Yet as I start to get on in years I enjoy shooting my N frame more than the K frame.

Beautiful stocks. What are the ones on the 17?

edit: That was in reference to post #10.

Looks like your relationship with that 19 has never been consummated. Better take it out to the range and get busy with it.

Never thought about it before. But went through the safe and darn if I don't have two K frames for each non-K Smith in there. Though I seen to drift to the Model 10, seven of them in four barrel length square and round butt. For those interested, 2/ 2" 1 each rnd. & sqr. butt, 4/ 4" 2 heavy barrel 2 skinny barrel one rnd. butt one sqr. butt each, one 6" sqr. butt. The others 1/ model 14-1 single action only and 2/ model 15 4"and 6" barrels.
