I have been looking to buy a nice S&W 586 or a 27-2 lately and have really been hunting.

Armslist can be a great resource. But it pays to be careful. I found two 27-2s there. They are (ahem) virtually identical, accent on "identical."

One seller is from Delaware, the other from Iowa. The revolvers were listed a week apart. Maybe it's the same guy selling the same gun and he moved.

Yeah, that must be it.

What do you think? (Hint - check out the presentation cases and the indents and marks in the plush).

I don't know why the links don't work here. They worked over at THR.

The revolver(s) in question were posted on Armslist on Dec. 18th and Dec. 27th respectively if you want to see them. Or you can cut and paste the URLs below into your address box.

This might be perfectly innocent but for the life of me, I can't think how.

I don't know if there is a rule here prohibiting posting links to another site, but if there is such a rule, may we suspend it temporarily so the revolver people here are aware of this.

Thanks

Email the seller and request a photo of it sitting on top of a current newspaper (that shows the date). I'm thinking that one of them is a fraud (or both, the photos may be lifted from a forum somewhere )

i like face to face deals . but i have meet some really good people here . if looking at a website sale if i like something and dont like terms just take a walk. One day somewhere the right deal will be right there

I saw a similar situation on Armslist here in GA just this week where the identical pistol (same gun, same description, etc.) was listed in two different parts of the state by two different owners. If this is a trend it can't turn out well for the uninitiated or careless buyer. The expression 'caveat emptor" may be several thousand years old but it has never been more valid than today.

Duhhhhhhhh.................."Zero tolerance" even if it meant saving someone here from being scammed and losing a lot of dough?

No matter, today Armslist flagged the two revolvers as being scams and banned the two posters.

Good!

Call me a cautious, but Armslist will always be a face to face transaction ONLY site for me. I trust, but verify.

Correct- Zero.
Report it to Armslist. That saves everyone, not just the people who might see your thread here.

We are not The Internet Scam Index.

That's cautious? Then you're in arm's reach of potential scammers who know you either have cash or merchandise on hand. ;)

"xxxxxxxxx,

Looks to have both been scams. Good eye. I blocked the user from the site, and marked all of their listings as scams. Thanks for the heads up!

Best,

Andrew

As evidenced by this email reply from Armslist, I reported it at virtually (pun intended) the same time I said something here. I had never communicated with anyone directly at Armslist. I had no idea if they would act or not.

Look, I know this is not the Internet Scam Index but what the hell. I was merely trying to possibly prevent someone here from being shaved by a scammer.

Obviously a mistake on my part.

I have had good luck online with guns sales.

I even bought one from a certain gorilla before he became famous as a gorilla.

But, one must be very careful.

My very first online purchase was my M24-3 four inch from GunsAmerica. It was for sale in New Hampshire (if I remember) but when I moved on it the seller said it was sold.

I found the exact same picture of it on GunsAmerica about a week or so later in Illinois. I contacted the first seller and he confirmed he has sold it to the second seller in Illinois.

The second seller had bought it and turned almost right around to sell it because he had the hots for some stainless semi-auto gun.

I still have the "gorilla gun"....a M27-2 3 1/2 inch.:D

I've purchased one gun through ArmsList and it was a very smooth transaction. However, it was a little 22 semi auto that cost me less than $140 shipped, AND the seller had a numerous listings - both active and completed for a variety of guns and gun related items. Of course I still took advantage of the protection afforded by using a USPS money order to pay.

I feel semi-comfortable with this, but I take a few precautions.

I arrange a meet in a very visible public place like a small parking lot in at a busy intersection. I don't keep the cash in my pocket - just a spare, nearly empty, "dummy" wallet.

The cash and my real wallet are stashed separately in a relatively inconspicuous, but easy to get to locations in my vehicle - like under the seat, or between the seat and console, or in the sunglasses holder in the overhead console.

Of course I'm not only carrying, but keep my CCW in a VERY handy and easy to reach location - like my coat pocket.

I figure if they get the drop on me I can make a show of cooperating by handing over my dummy wallet quickly and easily. If I have to I'm prepared to turn the tables with my CCW as soon as they give me an opening by letting their guard down.

If they get away with the spare wallet its no big loss since it has nothing of real value in it - just enough stuff with my name on it to be incriminating.

They Know I'm bringing cash.....I also meet in a public place and I carry!!!!
Problem.. or potential problem solved!!!!
