Am I Crazy?

Wife complained of house work.Just two of us in a comfortable house,I just retired from a life of night calls,weekend and Holiday schedules for over 46 years.I love privacy,Peace and Quiet,and the woods.
I finally agreed to look at a "Retirement Home" grand opening.When we got there it looked like a cheap motel from the outside-and she was right about no yard work,no grass-only pavement to blow.I turned a 180 and left.
I told her if I had to live like that my life is over,crammed in a box with a bunch of other old geezers.
I'd rather live on my land in a camper trailer and a couple of my favorite guns until I cash in.
AM I crazy??

No I would say you are perfectly sane! Most of those places do not allow firearms too Just to give you another reason to say No, Think about hiring some one to clean your house once every week or two It might make your wife's burden lighter.

lol crazy!? No i believe that you are not. When my time comes near i want to be in a place of peace and happyness. Not locked in a cage. and if possible id like to have a few moments with the family to tell them. I Love you all like crazy and only have two request, one - dont sell my guns keep them in the family. TWO get my old *** of this bed and take me out side so i may shoot my guns one more time!!!!

Believe I'd die from embarrassment if I had to have somebody take care of me.I'm old enough to make my own food and have enough money and brains left to support myself.

My Mother had to leave her big house when Dad passed. The place she moved to was like a 5 star Hotel/Apartment. The food (dining) was outstanding as where the services and activities. As with anything there are good and bad related to price.

Depends on your age and HEALTH.

Crazy? No, just don't look forward to spending you last years locked up and looked after. I plan to take care of my wife and me as long as I can. When the time comes and I can't, I plan to sit on the porch of a cabin and bark at everything that goes by. When that's not possible anymore, I'll crawl under the porch and go to sleep

No, you are not crazy. I spent many years counseling people about retirement issues and one of the MAJOR points was to hold your ground for at least one year before making ANY significant decisions.

The same advice holds true if there's a loss of your spouse.

Best advise so far. My parents moved into an Independent living facility years ago which offered full life care, (full independent apartment, semi-independent care in their own apartment, and finally “skilled” nursing care) all at the same monthly rate. It was the best decision they made.
Note the investment is not cheap a $250,000.00 - $500,000.00 buy in fee depending on the facility and location is needed. Mom currently pays $5,000.00 a month for her care.

We are all crazy. If we were sane, we would be chasing a little white ball across a pasture with a stick.

I know some people that are old. I live in Fl. I know a couple that had a place in Co. The doctors there were great at broken bones and trauma due to injury but the best Dr's for them were here. They sold their place in Co. and stayed here for his health. Heart problems. She is gone now due to Alz. He's still here and chasing the white ball.

Go figure.

My own parents are in the same situation. I'm glad they're not in the "ski town".

Also it's important to understand that maintaining a larger place than you need can eat your money quickly.

I'll do what I can to see them not lose their dignity. My Dad built the house and it's his to do as he wants.

He turned 82 the other day but is still sharper than a tack. Mom, Ain't so sharp. It sucks but it's another thread I won't open.

I'll trust his judgement.

Soo, Do what's best for you while you still can and don't put it off on your family.
