So i got the M&P Shield .40 and love it! The other half is getting one too. (that way she stops taking mine) I am use to my 1911 commander and sometimes like to OWB carry but cant seem to find a nice pancake 3 slot style formed leather and am beginning to wonder if i am crazy to even think about it. Anyone carry OWB like that? what do you use? Maybe I should just OWB the 1911 so it doesn't feel neglected. Any thoughts would be helpful....

First, WELCOME to the forum, and Thanks for your service. Lots of great folks and information here.

Take a look at Simply Rugged holsters, DEFCON3.

Can't say if you're crazy either, but as far holsters go I'm sure there are many but the first one that comes to mind (because I have/issued one) is the Desantis 3 slop pancake holster (ours comes with a thumb break)

I don't care for it, but it's mandatory to qual with it.

Once that's over, everyone goes back to the rig they normally carry for the advanced shooting.

Jiman beat me to it. I had the Desantis for a LC9 many years ago, but found myself either carrying IWB with a PJ holster or a Hidden Hybrid holster. When I carry OWB, which is usually just in the winter time and to and from work, I use a Blackhawk Serpa.

I am pretty thin and small, so OWB can't really work for me. Now my father is a bigger, and ahem festively plumper, guy, and I had not seen him actually CARRYING his gun in some time, he always keeps it NEARBY but rarely wears it (at least I did not think.) The other day we were doing something together , (He was down visiting from Jersey) and said something like, "Do you have a gun with you, " and naturally I said yes, {as the Shield is basically with me 24/7 now, really nice to have it always} and I said , you? and he tapped his OWB Holster on his hip- now I couldn't even tell it was there, with a simple T-Shirt like he always wears.

I think it's all about body-type, gun-type, holster-type. Some people can carry certain guns in certain ways, perfectly, others can't or need a different method. If something works for you, great, don't let anyone else tell you not to, otherwise just keep trying to find something that DOES work. (At least that's my humble opinion.)
