Lipsey’s S&W Model 610 10mm

Nice looking revolver. I like the stocks. I have to admit, I'm tempted to get one. But I need another 610 like I need a hole in my head🙄

Back in the early 1990s I worked for a LGS. We had a customer that was a 610 fanatic. He claimed he had every variation of every dash model Smith made. When we would get 2-3-4 of a new batch of 610s in, he'd set them all on the counter, check them out, dry fire them & then pick the one he wanted. I myself sold him a couple, so he may have been telling the truth on having them all?

His GF had pink hair............. :ROFLMAO:

The original run of 4,560 no dash 610's came out in 1989 with 5" and 6.5" barrels. The 610-1, however, didn't come out until 1998. Per SCSW4.

Here are my two 5" and two 6.5", all no dash models.IMG_3019.webp

Been buying many pistols since the 70s til today. Issues with some older S&Ws could " usually" be corrected sort of easily as was taught by an old S&W armorer that I shot with and we were both NRA instructors.
Seems new S&Ws are typical of the " new age"/ woke/ or whatever you call it manufacturing.
I'm basically a 1911 guy and " wheel guns" are a side line, not that I don't really like most.

I ordered one of the 686 MGs when prices got down to MSRP. Mine shot way low, since corrected, due to that very tall front sight. I know new S&Ws are routinely trashed on the internet, but no other complaints with mine. Had it to the range a couple times now; glad I bought it.

If I didn't already have a 10mm revolver, I'd have ordered the new 610MG too...

If you bought any nib firearms during the late 1970's or early 1980's, you'd know firearms in need of tlc or even finishing isn't new.
Amen...kinda like Detroit autos until Japan shamed them into making a quality product...many handguns made during that time period were rough

Called S&W Again today regarding the gold dot front sight insert, guy said they have the order but have a shipping dept problem. WTH does that mean? So inept, incompetent that the small insert can't be put in an envelope inside a piece of folded paper and mailed? Asked about sending pistol to have them fix it and he said 3 MONTHS!!!!!
NO MORE New S&Ws for me.

Colt is 6 months.

When… or if I ever take possession of it, I'll make it a point to put a dab of locktite on it. Truth be told, I was so excited to putting in the order, I didn't look at the front sight.

Is this the mountain gun? I have a 4" 610 and find it to be quite excellent. A MG would be exquisite.
Yes. This'll be the second S&W revolver with smooth stocks I'll own. I love the tapered barrel profile. After shooting the heavier barrels of the Model 29 and my x86 revolvers, I was surprised how nicely balanced my 6-inch Model 27-3 felt.

I was hoping to order the Model 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt, but it wasn't even available to the dealers. The Model 610 MG is my second preference. But having said that, I've got a 4-inch Model 610 with the heavy underlug. I waited a year for that one. I think Alaska gun dealers/buyers are low on the totem pole.

I wish I could; however, I don't have it. Anyway, it turns out they ordered the wrong Model 610. I got a call this afternoon the gun had come in. When I got there, I asked to see the gun. What they showed me was the "typical" S&W post-lock 610.
I informed them it was the wrong gun. We sort of haggled a bit until they relented and did a look-up. The only Lipsey S&W Model 610 Mountain Gun listed is a 41/4 inch tapered barrel with smooth target stocks.
It's not available—yet. S&W is allowing authorized dealer to put in their orders. So I'm back to square one. That's okay because when I got off the phone earlier, I told my wife it arrived too soon and I felt they may have received the wrong gun. A shame, really. 61/2" tapered barrels on N frames feel properly balanced. No we really wait!
SO much wrong here ... with this story
First off Sparta Arms cant get anything (firearm) from S&W - S&W only deals with distributors- period, Last I looked there were about 17 if I recall correctly.
If they want a LIpsey model revolver they have to get it from Lipsey or secondary market.

Second, the Lipsey models are on the market- several have been sold on GB and some members on this forum of commented on theirs.

Find a dealer who is not going to string you along.
