Nuts? Nope, the model 58 is hard to beat. I have several of them now ;)

Post in the WTB section of the classifieds, I am almost certain that you will find one - that is how I found two :D

I am greg. I am look
in for a Model 58 blue revolver.

You may well be nuts, but you have excellent taste in firearms. Keep an eye on Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine and Broome's Firearms in Fizgerald, GA. Both often come up with old and discontinued models of firearms.

I sent about 150 rounds of .41 downrange yesterday just about equally split between my 58, 6" 57 and new to me 8.375" 57. I was smiling the whole time.

Model 58 production stopped in 1977. This is the wrong forum. Just sayin'.

G-Mac - actually S&W made both Blued and Nickle model 58's in their 'Classics' lineup a few years back. They had the IL. If they had been no lock, I would have one of the new production guns too ;)

But yeah, the originals were in earlier era.

My recent purchase of a brand new m58 was a few years ago. She's in nickel and I had to have it. It's the first n frame I ever shot. What a great handling revolver. I'm a 5 1/2", 6", 6 1/2" barrel guy. But the 4" barrel on the m58 has changed my mind. My m58 has the il, mim but for $699 brand new who cares.
I been a ruger guy all my life too.

Vintage M58's are well made. The only downside I see is in getting ammo to feed it. If you are going to re-load for it then it won't be an issue, otherwise you might consider a model 29 instead. The M29 shoots .44 Mag / 44Spl. and that ammo is probably less expensive and more common.

Since there are a lot more M29 around you can probably buy one less expensively too. Again, the M58 is a very well made piece, but since it was less common the Achilles Heel will be the ammo if you are not a reloader.

They are out there...I just picked up a ANIB N serial M-58 blue...the original owner bought it and put it in his safe without firing it...it is in perfect order with box, docs, tools, etc. Keep looking, they exist.

Now, do I shoot it, or save it?

Shoot it and be the one to say "man, that was great!"

If not someone else will. I you take really really good care of it, you will not loose much with this one

Groo here
Where the 13/65 revolver is a great CCW/carry gun,
Its BIG brother may be one of the finest "backup" revolvers made...
I just wish the M-69 2 3/4 in was made in the 41mag.
With the C&S fixed sight, cant find much better.
Ps, the 41mag is the largest magnum I can shoot [from a shorter barrel]
at combat speeds with factory full power ammo.

While my views are wider than yours(looking for a 58 or 57 or 657 in whatever bbl lenght it is acomin'),I must say that the search is not an easy one.Been looking for over 2 years and nothing pointing at the horizon. But I keep looking...and looking...and looking...and..

Do you handload?

If you have a 41 Magnum, you almost have to, as Ammunition is not plentiful.

If you do handload then a model 58 would be a great gun to get.

A few years ago I saw a Model 58 that was perfect in every way. I passed because I knew I'd never be able to shoot it.

Those don't count. :D

Edited to add a picture of my S-series Model 58. I purchased it from the son of the original owner many years ago. He claims that the target stocks were original.
