Am I ready???

Don't let the "senior" title worry you.I started IDPA about 4 years ago and started as a senior. Poor eyesight (old eyes) and bad knees haven't helped, but i am still having a really great time. Since you prefer revolvers, look around for some local ICORE matches. I find I enjoy them more than IDPA, but there isn't much ICORE locally so I take what I can get locally.

The Gear

So, Saturday was a great day. Spent some time on my range practicing for this Saturdays match.

Fired 120 rounds and practiced reloading. Had some fun and scored most of my rounds -0 on two IDPA targets one at 7 yds the other at 20 yds.

No dropped rounds during reloading either..;)

For now, this is the setup I am going to use. I know all about the Safariland Comp II and III loaders guys. I have used HKS's since they came out and am comfortable with them.

I did find on Ebay, a HKS-60 speedloader tray and box in great condition. Cheap too. They have been discontinued for some time now and I was lucky to find one. It sure will help.

The Fobus holster was another Ebay find. For $20, if I don't like it I can throw it in a box and find something else. I did heat up the back side of it and push out the moulded trigger guard retainer a bit. It now draws very smooth and quickly without having to tug so hard.

6 HKS 10-A's and a double speedloader pouch that I have had for years. Close enough to start out with.

I am 69 years old and definitely not a competition shooter, but I like to get a few rounds on target now and then. When my eyes really got bad enough to have a big effect, I had some new glasses made. They are two different rx`s . The left [ non-dominate eye} is for long distance/infinity, while the right [dominant] eye is for close up, so I can see the front sight.
I can shoot with both eyes open and while it took awhile to get used to it now that I am I like it.. If you are interested I got the glasses made by an online store and I could n`t be happier the price was right and the quality is too. Jack

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion you're about to introduce some whippersnappers to old age & treachery ? Go , have fun , hand out some lessons etc . At our age one should jump at the chance to get out , be social & have fun doing something you enjoy .

As this gets closer I find myself really looking forward to it.

I am sure it will take me some time to get used to the stages, but my mind is still sharp and I can still remember what I had for breakfast...lmao.

It will be a learning expirence, I am sure. Age and treachery will overcome youth and exhuberance every time..:D
