always thought I knew the difference in 9mms having grown shooting and deployment to Iraq ins infantry but just got a m&p 9mm and without checking what store handed me . got home and got box of 9mms lifer and fmj 9mms NATO. something us telling me one isn't ok to shoot thru pistol. am I wrong or can I send em both downrange?

Interesting, other than the vernacular for a career soldier, I have never heard of lifer in conjunction with ammo. Sure it isn't Luger?

9mm Nato will be just fine. It's hotter than typical range ammo, but usually a hair below most +P ammo in velocity and energy.

Was 11C for many years... never used a pistol. Only the CO had a pistol. Anyway, 9mm NATO is OK to shoot in just about any modern 9mm pistol.
9mm, 9mm Luger, 9X19, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO. All have the same exterior dimensions. As already noted, the NATO stuff is a bit hotter than standard. A bit.. not a lot.

The NATO standards mainly insure the round will fit and fire in a standard chamber and cycle the action. It has a reputation as being "hot" because American source ammo tends to be a bit light for the older guns around. That being said a local P.08 aka Luger shooter claims Winchester White Box 9mm NATO shoots perfect in his two low value range guns.

Who assumes he doesn't shoot the collector's items.
